That does look pretty nice. Me personally I wouldn't build an off roading Lexus just out of respect for the brand. Toyota is a brand you could bash or scratch the crap out of it. It's sort of the low end brand you won't be heart broken over when you are out wheeling. Let your wife keep the Lexus, Audi, Porche, Mercedes etc. Keep your man car 4x4 toy one you can ding dent scratch etc out having fun. I would wince each time I got a ding in my Lexus if I owned one 4 wheeling. I don't personally enjoy a lexus over an Audi as a luxury SUV. Lexus still feels cheap to a nice Q7. I don't mind their power train but that's not all what makes a car.

Hate to burst your bubble but the 5th gen with manual transfer still has the electrically actuated ADD up front. Thats why at times when you pull the lever the 4x4 indicator light flashes a bit until you let you foot off the gas and it clicks in. If you really want something truly manual you have to look back to rigs with manual front hubs - Remember the days when you had to stop, get out and go turn hte knob on each front wheel?

I drove a 2014 Tacoma with 4x4 dial for 9 years before buying my 23 with the lever. I like the lever for the nostalgic "old school cool" factor but I don't think it really makes a big difference long term in reliability. This is still a Toyota, not a Chrysler.

With this redesign the 4Runner went on the same slippery path the Explorer took years ago, and the Grand Cherokee is on today with its latest refresh. Yes, both are unibody - but in each iteration they lost more off-road capability and exchanged it with tech and complexity. What made the 5th Gen sell so well was the quality, simplicity, and somewhat attractive price before they went through the roof during COVID. It wouldn't surprise me if the 7th Gen (2040 MY) moved to unibody.

I bought my 2018 ORP for 36.8 OTD. At the time there was nothing that could touch the reliability and capability at that price point. I'll be interested to see how Toyota prices the upper trims in comparison to the LC250 and GX550.

 

With the non-hybrid, you're not getting a lot of torque. And who wants to deal with the hybrid nonsense. You can't do anything with turbo, that's how it is now unfortunately. So go gx, you'll get 470 lb foot of torque. For the extra money that you pay for the gx, you get a ton of stuff, thing tows over 9,000 lbs

The only thing on the 6th gen I wish I had on my 5th gen is an 8 spd transmission.

 

What are you folks complains against the 5th gen? Lack of power, there's a solution to that, regear and supercharge. Bad mpg? Well, the new one is not getting phenomenal mpg. Listen don't trade your 5th gen, it's not worth it, modify it more. If I had an old gx, honestly I wouldn't care about the V8 and I would get this new one, because the new one is awesome. You can't say that about the new 4Runner sadly

I like the way the interior looks its very nice. The front looks great from the outside but not a fan of the rest. Hate they did away with the 4WD manual lever if true.

I thought the car care nut suggested that lever truly is manual which is a reason he liked the off-road vs sr5. Maybe I misunderstood

 

No misunderstanding, I said that because I like to do that even though I know it's not a direct mechanical connection

 

I watched way too many release videos, then went outside, looked at my ‘22 ORP, and smiled contentedly.

 

all current cars have aluminum hoods - paper thin. struts will ruin them. AND/OR:
hood has two open positions - normal and service

There will certainly be some gorgeous jacked up 6th Gens. But I feel like as much as I don't hate the new design, they went really blocky like transformer style look. Body used to be smooth during like the third gen.

 

That's why you got to love Jeep, the lever is still mechanical shit, it requires wrestling skills lol

It seems totally ridiculous. But, as much as I want to make fun of it, I could see it being handy when toting around a bunch of messy kids.

 

I agree with you about liking some of it, and can get used to it, but the viper cut ain't no viper cut and it looks clunky from the side imo.
