You think 4r will get materially better mpg than the LC? Such that Toyota raked the windshield to sneak by cafe regs? lol

    they get the same mpg.

It's tough to say, since MPG estimates haven't been released yet for the 4Runner.

What makes you think they'll get the same fuel economy?

If all else is equal, and one vehicle is almost 6" taller, I'm thinking there will be a difference.

Edit: although, the LC has higher fuel economy estimates than the Tacoma, so who knows??

I also like the look of the 5th better but claiming the straight windshield of the 5th is the only way a 4R should look requires that one pretend the first 4 generations didn't happen.....

I hate the 3rd gen Tundras....starting with the looks. That's why I have a 2020 :D. I hope the 2025 4Runner doesn't have alot of issues...wife wants one. I've seen walkaround videos from Doug Demuro but has anyone seen any videos of test drives? Toyota claims that the new engine is quicker than the older V8 4Runners.

The new tundra does look like trash. The swooping hood makes it look like a whale, and it has zero coherence with the rest of the vehicle. The previous gen is chunky throughout.

Yeah, the windshield statement was a miss.

I think Toyota has done an excellent job of keeping a 4Runner looking like a 4Runner across all generations, despite all the changes in other vehicles that make them look nothing like their predecessors. Pathfinder minivan is one example. And I imagine there were vocal detractors for every 4Runner iteration that came out.

Hopefully the less steep windshield will make it less of a magnet for rocks than the 5th gen. I do think that the 6th gen hood looks too long and the rear doors look too small.

I think the contrasting fender flares make the rear doors look smaller than they really are. Maybe the wheel opening is larger, too, which would have the same effect.

That could be it. I really don’t like the black fender flare look.

At least some of them have the flares paint matched to the body color.

I don't like the contrasting flares, either. Paint-matched would help, but I also don't the all the extra surfaces. Besides looking busy, it will be a pain to wash.

Looks more like a RAV4 or Highlander than a true 4Runner to me. Need to see on up close

I agree the new 4Runner looks a bit like a blown-up verson of new Rav4.

Did all the manufacturers agree to go with black fender trim this time around? lol

Yep, just like when they all went with the stamped lettering in the tailgate on trucks. I thought the lettering on the 2nd Gen Tacoma looked rather classy. Then the 3rd Gen came out with the stamped lettering - just like every other manufacturer... Almost like they colluded...

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Styling is subjective, myself, I do prefer the 5th gen but I’m old school biased.
The main thing I’m leary of is the complexity of the engine. My 2022 4R is scary enough without the associated turbo plumbing/electronics.
I tend to keep vehicles I like a long time and I have trouble envisioning the 6th gen being as good as the 5th gen in reliability.
When you add stuff, that is more stuff to cause trouble.
I own one turbocharged vehicle but it is simple as a pet rock and relatively easy to service compared to the recent Toyota offerings. When a turbo impeller/bearings lets go, more times than not if the impeller gets damaged it takes out the entire engine with it with the debris, a NA engine does not have that risk. Turbocharger bearings live in a very hot, hostile environment.

Well I can attest, the v8 4runner is not quick, lol. I still like it better than the v6 I have in my Tacoma though. Way smoother getting up to speed.

Saw on a video that the spare tire under these is a donut (whether that’s across all trims is another question) so watch out folks, can’t assume there’s a full-sizer anymore.

Donuts, prop rods = walking it back.

I guess we should be grateful that the SR5 package won’t have mast antennae’s & roll-up windows.

Saw a video from someone at 4Runner launch and they showed full size spare under the vehicle. However ...

4Runner is a copy of the new Tacoma.

In February, Toyota's website showed all new Tacomas come with full size spares. But many Tacomas arriving at dealerships have donuts. And recently Toyota's website has been updated to show only certain models come with full size spare. For lower models, you have to buy the option package to get the full size spare.

Even the full size spares seem to be a crappy temp tire that doesn’t match the other 4. Toyota is nickel and diming us out of all these items that used to be standard.

Tacomas come with either a compact spare (SR), full-size temporary spare (mainstream trims), or full-size matching spare (Pro/Trailhunter).

The 4Runner in the March teaser pic had a full-size temporary spare:

Yah, I wonder how much final price will be to get the 4Runner I want with all the accessories I want. I'm sure it climb past the entry price of a LandCruiser.

Probably. If it’s anything like the new Tacomas then you will need to have one of the highest add on packages to get any of the nice features you actually want. Many of which used to come standard.

Some of those items will probably make a comeback with the 6th gen facelift in ~2029 :p

Things lost from 4th gen to initial 5th gen:
    Projector headlights
    Soft-close tailgate
    LED tail lights
    Locking fuel door
    V8 option

6th gen gains a power tailgate, which is now a mass-market feature on most crossovers like the RAV4.

Room underneath going to be tight for aftermarket tires.

^Yes the changes were more adverse for Tacomas because Toyota lengthened the wheelbase while keeping overall length the same, while the switch from leafs to 4-link crowds the area even more with a panhard bar. As a result, spare tire room in the Tacoma is now as bad as 5th gen 4Runners

That’s tight. Also no heat shield between the tire and exhaust seems odd but saved $7.

Too many mods and too much money
I would bet there is an aftermarket company working on either a bump stop add on, or an upgraded top hat.
