Loan with zero down??? I get it on a lease but on a loan we put down atleast 20%. If you total the vehicle in 2months you’ll be terribly upside down.

I usually just use whatever the vehicle I’m trading in as a down payment but I have bought one with zero down before. I bought my house with zero down payment too.

I did say it was anecdotal as long as it was just a few people on the internet. I also said I expected Toyota would do the right thing and recall if the numbers added up.

Thats what they have done. Good move Toyota. Hopefully it’s resolved quickly. It’s officially not anecdotal anymore.

Notice this is a voluntary recall of 100k vehicles. Big difference from the involuntary recalls of 700k trucks Ford has been forced to do by NHTSA investigations.

I am sure more vehicles are affected… there are reports of 2024 MY failing with same symptom.
Yota is doing bare minimum while balancing mitigation of other outcome like diminished sales and reputation.

I am skeptical the cause they laid out is the truth.

I wish for them to loose a ton of money and reputation from this.

    A quick search in google:
    Tundra MY2022:104404
    Tundra MY 2023: 125185
    LX MY2022: 3642
    LX MY2023: 6959
    Total: 240,190 vehicles

So the recall of 102,000 vehicles reads as 42% of units sold. So its not rare, but they also know sometihng thats letting them narrow it down to less than "all of them"

The sad thing is it took me less than 1 minute to look up those numbers and do the math... but sharing facts and doing the math doesn't fit into the Toyota hater agendas that are being heavily pushed around here lately. Never thought that I would join a Toyota board and have to defend myself for... you know... liking Toyota? :notsure: Maybe I should join a Honda board and talk Toyota there- might be more welcomed.

The Toyota haters are really out in force - I'm not sure why they don't just go buy Fords??

It’s simplistic for you to deduce only the vehicles they announced right now are impacted, just like it was simplistic to disregard the failure reports as anecdotal, up until Toyota announced the recall.

It’s not wise to ignore the smoke

0% plus some decent discounts are very tempting but I’m not sure if it is worth the headache of dealing with an engine replacement. Maybe if the fix is to just give you a whole new truck rather than a loaner for a couple months while getting your engine rebuilt by the guys that can barely do an oil change without screwing something up.

Why do you "wish" them ill?
I don't understand this sentiment. Were you cheated by toyota out of money, in yesteryears? Why the hate?

Their confidence of their market position resulted in them producing these new models with high cost and relatively lower value. Pushing the boundary of what’s possible in terms of profit.

Their business model contains a weighty portion of brand standing and customer loyalty, allowing them to push the boundaries on profit margin.

I wish ill on their brand and loyalty stemming from this incident. So they can adjust the cost/value aspect in favor of the customer

I’m hoping the solution to the recall is to swap the engine with a 5.7. The old reliable V8 mated to a modern transmission is what most of us want anyways. :D:D:D

Do you own a tundra or lexus affected by this recall? If its just the 2023 4runner that you own from toyota, why do you care?
Or this is more outrage over things that do not directly concern you?

It sees problem with its product and it is doing the right thing by recalling it. I do not know anyone who has been cheated out of their purchase yet -- those affected will probably get new engine, or some way to fix the vehicle. We will have to wait a few years to really know where does current gen tundra stand in reliability. I also do not know with certainty, that toyota's business model has switched to cashing in on branch standing and loyalty, with these new models. All cars are becoming more expensive, not just toyota.

When it comes time to replace my 4runner, if toyota is plagued with these issues still, I'd look elsewhere. Maybe I will be outraged then, as I had my wad of cash to another OEM from whom I buy my next vehicle. For now, this does not concern me.

At least I spent the 30 seconds doing some research, rather than just attacking everyone who disagrees with nothing me than a "because I said so"

We get it - you hate Toyotas. Feel free to buy another brand and move on, its a free county.. If you find a perfect brand with zero failures, breakdowns or recalls let me know, I haven't yet.

I need to take a break from the 6th gen discussions.... its all just going in circles.

There are recalls... there will be more news coming. I will be content with my 5th and watch how it all plays for a couple years. Later'

the biggest sin is that windshield rake.
If I want an aero looking suv, I’d get a Mazda cx90…

the 6g is such a terrible design. The new LC carries the spirit of the 4Runner.

Yeah! Fuck Toyota for doing what was necessary to squeeze out a few extra MPG's instead of getting rid of the 4Runner altogether. What a bunch of losers!

Yeah, a model that will get worse fuel economy and sell at lower volume.

Do you understand how CAFE regulations work?
