Yeah it makes sense. I sold the old stock parts as I am not into hoarding things. Im planning on keeping it instead and extracting the value from the mods added.

I think if you know the owner and the vehicle, I would pay more for some mods done. For example, I. The local 4Runner group, I am very familiar with at least 15 trucks. If, god forbid, something happened to mine and I was looking to buy one, then I would be comfortable paying more over a stock one from one these folks.

For a stranger’s truck, I might still be depending on the mod. A steel bumper is pretty straightforward, same as a winch. I would probably just ask to check everything over with the front facia off, check torque on bolts, and look for rust or damage. But DIY electrical control panels, or mods more intrusive than a tap-a-fuse I’d avoid. Holes drilled in roof for mods, and any engine mods I would also avoid. There are installs from a couple of local shops I would trust, so if they had receipts for that then I would consider some value. And if the mods were less than 2 yrs old as well. If they’ve been running a 34” tire or bigger for any length of time, I wouldn’t necessarily avoid, but I would offer less than a stock price.

Keeping it stock was part of my rationalization for buying a Pro. I'm not mechanically inclined. I would drive myself nuts trying to determine what mods to install, one change leads to another, who is going to install it, the cost of the mods and install, and ultimately the diminished value, and the added wear and tear of a modified vehicle. No thanks! I will never go rock crawling! A stock 4R with good all terrains with serve 97% of us just fine!

I’m fighting this not to mod my 23 Pro when I get it. Whenever I mod my Pros I’m able to change them back. I like the westcott lift on the Fox suspension and a nice set of door ding preventers I call them. Which they really protect. Not sure this time if I will remove the pro rack and add the westcott lift. The westcott lift helps the suspension handling and also the ride. Just my opinion.

Buying a truck with mods is not a problem for me.

My main two things are 1) is the frame intact and rust at a reasonable point for the age and 2) Is the interior clean?

I dont need it to be pristine just not smell like someone lived in it. Of course I can detail it and clean, I just feel that if the interior was not trashed -- chances are other parts of the truck will be fine.

I wouldn’t have a problem buying a modified one either. But I’d want to pay less than market. Sliders, bumpers, etc don’t paint themselves, and chances are they would need it. A lot of mods require additional upkeep and PM, or make general maintainace harder, sometimes a lot harder.

I read all of page one but can't even read anymore of you negative Nancy's. Ya'll sound like you love stock 4Runners and mods are evil and nobody wants to buy a Runner with some quality popular mods already done saving them the lead time and cost for these parts new. There absolutely is lots of buyers, buyers who like 4Runners for a reason, who would purchase a 4R with mods at a decently high price.
    F*ck stock 4Runners.
Hell, I feel this way and I'm not even selling. I paid it off years ago and it's going to my baby boys for a bush truck. But I got low mileage (2016 @ 90,000km), full time garage and underground parking stored, no rust, good maintenance history, one owner since new. Gtfoh I wouldn't get a good dollar for it still. And no I'm not asking for bullshit replies saying I ruined the truck and will.take a big loss. Not in British Columbia I wouldn't.

Nah man. Your rig is fine. Like I said, people around here don’t even look at frame rust before paying stupid money. Most people won’t really notice or care about most small mods, so your resale probably wouldn’t drop. The big stuff might be a point of negotiation if they want something different, or don’t want it at all. I think in general, the more expensive and permanent a mod is, more difficult it is to sell to the general public. But even so, there’s a market for everything, you just have to find it.

My thoughts exactly McSpaz, you get it. It's like it was contagious on this thread, and the cool kid thing to do, to jump on the bandwagon of stock is amazing - when in realty I cringe seeing my stock 4R photos lol

Dollar for dollar was never the ask, im curious to see if people have received more than KBB for good mods. Even if 2K over KBB for example with 10K in mods.

Enthusiasts on the forum seem to widely agree the answer is no with a few believing you can get marginally more.

I personally feel a modded vehicle would be more than a stock vehicle. But only in the eyes of someone who would do the same mods. So you have to sell it to yourself, lol.
Kinda like a 68 camaro that’s a resto mod at the mecum auction.

I feel if you don’t like the mods, just move the fuck along. But if you were going to do the same mods anyways if you bought it stock, then go for it and put that cost in your consideration.

I don’t think anyone will get more than kbb/blackbook doing anything other than a personal sale.

    of course my opinions only

Ya you're probably right. Probably an accurate answer overall. But I think one side gives more weight to the fact that a seller's price can very much be based on circumstance and location, instead of blanket agreeing $10-20k usually gets you zero over asking. Of course if it's starting to rust and clearly not maintained - I agree all mods then are like polishing a turd; it's still a turd!
