That was the way it was, At least at my Dealer, before I retired. This is in regards to having quality techs, not the gas-lighting part

I purchased a TRD PRO after I saw the problems the new Tacoma and Tundras are having. The 6th gen looks ok, I'm not a fan of the tailgate.

Is the rear legroom any worse than the Land Cruiser and Lexus versions of the 6th gen 4runner? I’d imagine they are identical given the shared architecture, but I haven’t checked the specs.

If they need to redesign anything, it’s how to get the seats to fold completely flat and level with the cargo floor. That might be something that’s possible to do with just a seat redesign, and ironically would help create a clear distinction between it and the LC and Lexus variants.

And would help 5th Gen lovers don’t mind too much getting into a 6th gen. It would help with their sales.

What they will be missing is a trust worthy midsize BOF that is widely available under 60k. You know, the kind of stuff people traditionally go to Toyota for.

I call it an engineered delay to sell as many LC’s as possible. I just got my Terra Pro a few weeks ago. Enjoying that. I’d say it’s a keeper. Will watch my brother in law’s LC purchase/experience quite close. Out of the two new Toyota offerings (or 3 with Lexus), I’d choose the LC over the G6 4R. There’s a choice 4 everyone I guess. Good times!

Toyota claims it was manufacturing debris in the engine blocks. Did they really let that happen in 100K engines? The reality sounds like it was a design issue with the crank bearings that they have now modified.

I know it’s not a 4runner, Tacoma, or LC, but this is what I meant. They share the same frame, and I wonder if they possibly share the same body architecture as far as seat hardpoints and dimensions in terms of legroom. That would make redesigning the 6th gen 4runner completely against their whole philosophy of platform sharing. However, redesigning a seat/folding mechanism so it lays flat might be something that toyota could do.

Exactly. More so, where else did they use these bearings?

I didn't know we had so many esteemed industrial or manufacturing engineers in house. Even able to diagnose root causes without ever setting foot in a plant.

I don’t think you need an engineering degree to know that Toyota is bending the truth to save face.

You do however need a PhD in Toyota fanboism studies to see 2+ years to do something and 100K+ engines replaced anything short of clusterfuck. This is comparable to BMW Nikasil or Cadillac Northsar head gasket issues. Well, at least they are fixing it without getting sued first.

I recently passed by a Toyota dealership - it is full of unsold Tundras and Tacomas.

I guess with a brand new engine it could be design or execution related. And sometimes if it's due to the design, it still might be cheaper and effective enough to put a bandaid on it on the manufacturing side, so the solution may not indicate the root cause in the end.

Agree with Sin: however you slice it, the number of recalls in the last 1-2 years on redesigned vehicles is ridiculous for any manufacturer, let alone the supposed quality and manufacturing excellence king.

Yup. Toyota allegedly knew about the engine “debris” for two years and never thought about changing how they cleaned the engine blocks? Just continued on building over 100K of them. Yeah OK. How do people believe this?

Toyota’s whole reputation is based on making stuff that works correctly forever, and 4Runner is a crown jewel of that image.

Judging by recent events throughout the TNGA-F (slightly dysfunctional?) family, I’d say we should applaud the idea of Toyota delaying the release of Gen6. Let’s give the engineers some additional sweat time to go over things again. And again.

In the meantime, if they want to call it “parts shortages” or space alien invasion, I’m good with that too, as long as they get this one right the first time.

Not me. I need honesty. I have to reset expectations all time, but I choose, every time, to be honest about why I am resetting expectations. Don't tell me it's part supply issues if it's because you have an internal control that you f*cked up on. Tell me you screwed the pooch and you're going to make it better. You didn't get it right, if you lied about why you got it wrong.

Also, Toyota did a great job of building brand loyalty, and it has floated the company for a long time. I worked as a claims adjuster handling extended warranty claims and used vehicle claims. What that means is I only handled claims for items covered after the original warranty expired. I handled all makes and models, from Kia Forte to Range Rover Sport to Mercedes AMG and BMW M-series, etc. Toyota was not immune to warranty issues, especially outside of the traditional warranty period, not by a long shot. It's been that way for well over a decade, but its catching up to them now.

Toyota has spent millions of dollars to make things right, but that's only because they weren't made right from the factory.

Maybe they don’t have the parts to make it right currently. Maybe they needed to change something and are now waiting for suppliers to produce.

Why must it be, they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes?

Because they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes! j/k

BTW, since you brought up wool, I'll just say, I love wool. I have about every item of clothing in wool. I wear wool pants and wool socks almost every day. I have wool underwear and wool blankets (season appropriate). Love the stuff. If Toyota sold every new vehicle with wool to pull over my eyes, just might make the buying decision easier for me.

The Tacoma numbers are very early and do you know which midsized truck is number one in sales? Take a guess.
