Have you read this whole thread? Almost everything that has happened so far suggests the exact opposite of those guys being very good.

Well I know the oil changers and tire rotaters are not worth a hoot. They must be the new guys.

Well that’s good! The time it’s taken is a bit surprising though. It’s also a bit disappointing that the repair is as complex as it is. Not sure if it is supposed to be complex, but sometimes it’s better/easier to take it out an engine when you have the tools to do it, in order to have the space to do a good job on a particular fix. And do it well enough so it doesn’t fail again.

If there’s a positive to all this, is that the 4runner has a lot of space to manuever an engine out. The negative is that you’ll need to run it through it’s paces when you get it back to make sure they didn’t forget anything.

I personally know of a situation where coolant was put in instead of oil at an dealer (not toyota). Thankfully, the mistake was caught before the engine was cranked.

Any idea where these belong. Got the car back after 4 weeks and found these in the cup holder. Also missing 3 screws on the fender liner, dented driver side running board, toyota app sending notifications to see a dealer for maintenance and visually looks like they change quite a few things in engine bay20230921_183103.jpg

Anyone knows what is the big chunk of metal that the water pump is attached to? Both left and right look like brand new big pieces?

Looks like a brand new engine? Are those stress cracks all over it?

I hope I not wrong but at first I also thought these were cracked but now I'm thinking these are some kind of casting marks. I just don't know why they replaced all of it. Still waiting for the paperwork to see what they list as being done. The advisor said they had to replace a cracked timing cover but I tough it is on one side of engine and in my head cover is a flat small piece, however it looks like top of the engine was replaced. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall and see what really happened.

The black clips at the top look like the glove box screw covers (you should be able to see them when you open the glove box). The round black bit on the right looks like the thumb screw (finger screw?) that holds the kick panel near the front seat foot area. The screws appear to be interior screws for either the radio, glove box, etc.

Thank you, I will have a look, when I asked them about it they said oh, yea the technician said you don't need these these are extra. A side question, why did they need to remove glove box and or radio stuff to to lift the engine?

What are you referring to? The “wings” coming off the water pump? I think those are the housing where the flutes/channels for the coolant to run through.

The crinkles on the cast aluminum are from casting process. Probably because aluminum shrinks a lot after casting, and wrinkles show up on the surface, which cools first.

When you say they replaced “all of it”. What do you mean?

the three self gapping screws are probably your missing fender liner screws.

What does the invoice say was replaced?

You were correct the glove box is missing 3 screws and I'm guessing the 3 covers. Now that leaves the 2 machine screws and the plastic thinghy. I am going to stop by the dealer on Monday to have a chat with the service manager. Not expecting anything but the lie about disposing the parts is BS, they could at least said come in we will have a look but just straight to "oh, yea technician said these are extra and to just throw them out"... .wow.

Definitely check the passenger side kick panel (right in front of the door by the passenger's feet). If they removed the glove box, they almost certainly removed that kick panel. The round piece looks like the thump screw that holds that in.
