That's what I do. I'd rather not have them jangling around all the time, and in most cases they'll be easy enough to install as needed, which will hopefully be almost never.

My exhaust is in the way on the passenger side, but I plan to use the hitch and driver's side recovery point with a bridle if I need to.

I don’t recommend using the rear loop for recovery. It is attached to the frame in a much less robust way than the front loops.

This too. It’d likely extend the life of the powdercoat on those new recovery points without the shackles sliding around on them. My recovery instructor also says to be wary of Amazon bought bow shackles. He recommended purchasing from actual rigging companies like ASR or Factor 55. Shackles like Crosby or Van Beest. I stopped carrying around the “value” priced Amazon bought ones I purchased early on and got a few Van Beest Green Pins.

I installed the NYTOP front recovery points, and the tie-in seems extremely robust. Extra hardware included, which is always nice. The only variation from the extreme clear instructions was not being able to fit a washer between the frame and the recovery bracket because the fit was too perfect. I imagine that variations from the factory are the issue, but everything torqued down properly with a close fit and no gaps.

This is the first I have seen those, they look kinda close to the bumper.

I suppose they do sit a little close. My recovery setup uses soft shackles so I don't anticipate an issue. They are also chamfered for that purpose. It looks like it would be a poor choice for regular shackles. It’s kind of hard to photograph them to show the angles, but the bumper rolls up to give plenty of clearance.

Half of me loves this design and the other half of me is afraid I'd hit them on something and bend them... normally they're oriented the other way so an impact is along the wide axis but this orientation is clearly better for a pull.

I think they're kinda hideous. I also don't think they're any better than just using the tie-down points. The bolts up at the crush cans create a pivot point, the side bolt into the crossmember and utilization of the tie-down loop will see all the pulling force.

Plastic bumper cover will flex as needed to accommodate shackles. That is, assuming you haven't torn it off already earlier on the trail.

You would need to break the bolt at the side of the frame and bend the stock tie down loops before any pivoting would occur, which would be well beyond the 12,000 WLL for these recovery points.

I am not a huge fan of recovery points that mount on a single plane... 1/2" plate is great but the frame is probably less than half that. A hitch shackle thing is like $30 and will be way more sturdy.
