Does anyone know how many inches out past the bumper the tray comes out? It’s hard to tell in video or photos.

Unfortunately the instock 4Rs around me do not have option to see in person.

I am debating putting on an order

Street fish--thanks for that pic--it is very helpful. Does your stuff slide off the tray easily when you pull it out?

I would say no more than not having the rear deck. The plastic deck cover that comes with the tray holds some item in place very well, other's may move around a bit. My dog seems to have a harder time gripping the surface of the tray, but he's also neurotic and won't sit still while the cars moving. Also the plastic deck cover/liner will move around at some since it doesn't actually grip onto the edges of the tray. I'm going to solve that problem this weekend with some well placed screws.

All in all, I would say I'm happy with the cargo tray. When I first saw it in there, I considered removing it immediately, but the first trip to the grocery store turned me into a supporter. Also, lets not forget the little cargo/bag hooks on the underside of the tray for stuff.

I'd say it can't hurt to order one with the tray. If you don't like it, there are always people looking to buy one that will trade out their cargo area pieces as a part of the deal.

My favorite part about the tray, other than the flat sleeping surface it provides, is that it can be used as a "tailgate" to sit on, much like we used to do with pickups back in the day lol.

I plan to use some Velcro to affix my "rubber mat" .. soft side on the sliding tray part, so that I can easily remove the mat when camping, etc.

That may work better. I can't believe I didn't think of velcro.

    Hey,

I recieved mine on Monday and installed it yesterday. The main reason I bought it was to make the cargo area flat for camping/ sleeping without having to do any kind of build out of wood (I'm in an apartment). Mine has carpet on it and I have not had any problems with items sliding off when opening the try. I'm sure if I pulled it out or pushed it in rapidly I could make something fall. ( or if the items were round or something)
The fact that it pulls out is a bonus feature for me and will allow for tailgate sitting as described above and mabye food prep area.. I'm super stoked to have it and it works for my needs. If you don't need a flat cargo area then you could probably take it or leave it. I wouldn't buy it just to make unloading groceries easier.

I was primarily thinking of getting it as I saw a video where one dude said he liked to prevent dropping items on bumper and scratching paint. But then you are constantly pulling it out for everything. I had planned to use a Uhaul furniture cover as a base and protect wheel wells also but if I slide in and out I will have to constantly adjust. I plan to store stuff for towing boat there (jack/lug nut wrench/air compressor and fishing equipment)

So.. I'm not sure exactly what this means or could mean.. but I was just happening to "build" a 4Runner on Toyota.com the other day, and I noticed that, at least in my region (Southeast Toyota aka SET), the package options that include the sliding rear cargo deck are no longer listed / available? I wonder if they simply ran out of deck parts and refuse to make more since the new 4Runner is on the horizon? If that's the case, I imagine they're hard to find now on new 4Runners.

In that case, I'll sell my sliding cargo tray for $1,500 plus trade out of your rear cargo area materials and a 6 pack of Hefeweizen. You do all the work for the swap in my driveway with your tools, and I'll drink the beer while criticizing everything you do.

Hey, it's all supply and demand.

And up in the north the XP package shows available in a build up here. Previously that was only available for SE toyota dealers. Today it was gone last night it was there. Something is odd.

Does anyone have any further info on the cargo deck? My dealer is providing confusing information about it being backordered/unavailable. Also confusing info re: whether it is installed at factory or VPC. As a result of all that, they are basically saying if you want a new TRD Pro with the cargo deck then your delivery date is completely unknown.

I'm pretty sure it's a factory installed item, not VPC, just like the sunroof.

What they are saying sounds right to me. If the decks are indeed not being fitted anymore at the factory (due to stock depletion), then good luck finding a TRD Pro with one unless it's been sitting on a lot for a while. Not saying it isn't possible... Maybe there are some in the chain? Or maybe they are just waiting on more deck parts to be built.. and it will again be offered once they are ready?

What does "VPC" stand for? Is this something related to the port?

^ Yes VPC is at the port. That's where modifications are done (if applicable), accessories installed, etc.
