PSI for load range E tires

I guess I should have given a more descriptive explanation of our 10-ply use. We live on a gravel road, once upon a time a rock entered a tire tread.. seeing a piece of gravel stuck right in the tire tread made us switch to 10 ply tires, and since that change we have not had a 'rock' related flat. this is 25 yrs. or so ago. It's just what we do, run them at 37-38 psi. and life goes on! It works for us, but this may not work for everyone, and when we plan a trip, I air down a bit(2-3 psi) for aaahhh feeling in the ride.

 

I have a 2024 4Runner off-road premium with KDSS. Have driven over 2,000 miles on 40psi. The ride has been good, no added load, other than a 70lb roof rack and 70lb rock rails.

Recently Contacted Wildpeak for my 265/70/17R E rated tires and they recommended 44PSI.


Your New Size (LT265/70R17 E) has a Load Capacity of 2,219 lbs. @ 44 psi. per tire.

44 psi cold would be the optimal air pressure for your new tires.

 

That's interesting. I've been running at 40. I can tell it's at the lower end of the sweet spot on colder days.

 

I run mine at about 40 psi for her pavement princess duties, and air down as required for whatever offroad adventures I get into. Ride quality is about the same as the stock P rated tires, and one could air down for a more pillowy experience at the expense of a mpg or two.

The number of people in the automotive industry (including tire sales and installers) who do not know that an LT requires more pressure to handle the same weight as a P-rated tire (of the same size) is astounding.
