I don’t think 4x4 has anything to do with tire rotation. My understanding is the front tires are subjected to more wear because of directional changes (steering) and this accelerates tire wear, hence the rotation requirement to equal out tire wear.

There are several tire rotation schemes. Tire companies generally recommend cross rotation patterns. Toyota recommends front-to-back, same side for 4Runners. Check your owner manual.

Interesting. I would have guessed the 4Runner uses the typical RWD dominant AWD cross rotational pattern. They’re not one directional tires like snow tires. Guess I’ve got some reading to do. Thx for the heads up!

I always do the "X" pattern rotations... unless I'm running uni-directional tread patters. This way my tires change direction of rotation as well as front (faster wear) or rear positions each rotation. I find this keeps all 4 tires wearing pretty much identically for their lifetime.

Any good reason to only do front to back (and not cross or "X")?

Does anyone know where in the owners manual it describes how to reset the “oil maintenance required soon” light (message)? I can’t find it . I have a 2023.

On the tire rotation, I go rear passenger to front driver to rear driver to front passenger then back to rear passenger. I was aware of the front to back, but have it in my head that the tires need to hit all 4 spots to wear as even as possible.

I find it funny that the vehicles are programmed to 5k oil changes, but yota will only cover oil changes at 10k under the “free” maintenance with purchase plan.
