    Hello Rick

The device you got off Amazon is typically used for the newer laptops or pcs that dont have a burner.

You are copying the music from your cd to the little flash drive.

Burned discs aren't exactly the longest term of storage. See all of the people who had their wedding videos on DVD who can't watch those DVDs anymore because the DVDs broke down in less than 10 years. I have some old burned CDs that don't work anymore, and I have a few bootleg movie blu rays that were burned that don't work well anymore either.

I don't know if Taiyo Yuden makes BDR discs, but I remember they made the best CDR discs. It was what you wanted if you wanted to go longer term. I don't know how well they held up in the grand scheme of things, though.

External hard drives are still the best option, and you really should be keeping two of them, one as a backup.

What about original cds? They dont break down seeing I have thousands of Cds from the 90's .. ORIGINAL CD's . They work ABsoulutley right away, no skips, no stalling yet (fingers crossed). With my portable CARPLAY CD player. Will the ORIGINAL CD's break down in a few years?? Or??? Will I still be able to use them with my portable CARPLAY CD Player?

I wouldn't expect the Carplay CD player to break your CDs, but it's expensive and will hog your Carplay functionality if it works like I think it does. Just get a cheap knockoff Discman and an FM transmitter. For far less than 100 bucks you get CD play and retain full functionality of everything. I often use Android Auto with my knockoff Discman and FM transmitter. Zero functionality gets sacrificed.

I'm not getting kickbacks or anything. I just don't want people to spend big bucks on something that won't work as well as what I've put together in my 4Runner.

Yes, your CD player won't work directly in the T4R. But, if you can "rip" the music to your computer and then put it on flash drive that will plug into the USB port and work in the T4R.

2020+ no longer has the aux jack, sadly.

Cool, the Hott ones are back in stock. That might be an even better option than what I got. More compact.

Totally understand, my guy. I appreciate you giving options for us broke folks out here, tryna get by. Android Auto never used it, better than CarPlay??? what if this company made an android auto CD player would put work better\?? CD player probably could process with taking away zero functionality from the android features?? what do you think?

I wouldn't be able to plug in my phone to use Android Auto while using the Android Auto CD player, so I don't think it would work for me.

I think part of Android Auto, even wired, utilizes Bluetooth, probably for audio. I've had my Bluetooth turned off on my phone before hooking up my phone, and Bluetooth is always forced on. That's why I decided to go with the FM transmitter with the CD player instead of Bluetooth.

I'd be interested in seeing a video of the phone casting, but it still seems like a lot of money for a little bit of convenience versus the alternatives using an FM transmitter. I'm not too terribly interested in watching any TV on the head unit screen either.

I've given thought to playing Doom on the head unit screen just to say I did, but I'll have to find out what the backup camera video signal is. If it's NTSC then great. I can feed my hacked PSP into that input. For as HD as the screen is, the backup camera looks awfully standard definition.
