Pistol Mounts

This is what I made for my Tacoma . When I leave my truck I use a front pocket holster. I got my CCW 29 years ago for my 21st birthday and have carried ever since. having my pistol on me is in grained and I cannot remember one time leaving it in my vehicle. I don't care for the console safe because the last thing I wanna be doing in fiddling with a combo when I need my gun. I have tried many different holsters with many different guns and have never been comfortable carrying on my hip or the small of my back. Since learning how to make my own holster I just tweak them till they are exactly what I want.

 

When on my hip, I consciously always know it's there, but physically I can't tell at all. I would never carry in the small of my back. Imagine being knocked down on your back. You are now on top of your gun. Not very quick or easy to get at.

 

"...You are now on top of your gun.." and hurt! since the steel frame 1911 you carried bruised your spine at L4/L5.

 

I keep the back of my duty belt clear as well. If I ever wind up on my back A.) I don't wanna land on something that's going to hurt and B.) Everything on my belt and carrier I need to be able to access. Off duty I usually strongside carry in an alien gear IWB. If I get lazy I will appendix carry. I don't like having a gun pointed at my junk while driving when I appendix carry so usually just put the gun and holster in the driver side door pocket.

 

No "trial and error" in mounting. Weapon is a small 380 Bodyguard. Mount is magnet type attached to knee panel with double-sided tape and a very tiny screw to ensure adhesion. It's mostly out of site and out of mind but extremely convenient to get to should the need arise (and praying that never happens). I do have a Florida CWP (along with most of Florida's populace) and being a 12 year volunteer with local PD, should I ever get pulled over I will immediately declare the "zero" is onboard.

 

I'm late to the appendix carry party, but it is quicker- especially in a vehicle. I, like others, don't like it pointed at my junk. Although, catching a round in the femoral artery would be more lethal.

I carry at the small of my back due to body shape and and the ability to conceal with the type of clothing I wear. I just pop my holster off and wedge it between the seat and the shifter area of the console. The gap fits my G19 snuggly but does not have the same retention with my G48 with the same holster.

 

If I liked single clip holsters, I would probably buy this for the console.

Driving for a long trip? Use a shoulder holster. Just be sure to get a good one; if it costs less than $100...it's probably not a good one. I wouldn't mount a firearm in the cabin anywhere; it's an extra 5lb steel projectile that will be bouncing around the cabin in an accident, and firing pin drop safety or not...very high chance it'll go off as they're not tested at those speeds/impacts. If you need to store it, the center console safe is the perfect solution. Otherwise, it should be on your person. AIWB is also really comfortable for long drives, but not everyone wants to or can carry that way.

 

For me, i'm a waist carry guy too. I tend to avoid places where I can't carry, but in case I need to leave it behind, I have a Lock'er Down Console Safe with a digital combo lock. It works really well for me.

I guess it won't be so bad to have a magnet next to the console by my right knee. My main daily carry is a Sig Sauer Legion 220.

The Victory console is great, and the single clip holster works OK, but the holster can wobble around a little. I still need to fine tune mine. It's perfect for carrying 1911 sized snacks...

 

But guns are evil….

 

I don't think I can bring myself to putting holes in my interior trim.

 

So I tried the Desert Does It panel. Not for me, didn't like that my floor mats and the seat bolt covers didn't work with it. Also didn't realize how far back one of my feet sits when I drive, I pistol would definitely be in my way. Nice product, just not for me. DDI is issuing a refund minus shipping to and from.

 

Great thrread...I usually carry on my hip, but I need to get a console vault...

 

I thought about that too when I put the first screw in. The thought was gone by the second one. The benefit of having the molle panels is worth a few holes in the console that won't be seen.

 

i have two pairs of cuffs on my back of my duty belt. Still trying to figure out a way to move those, but I am out of room.

Always appendix carry off duty. I’m probably gonna start pulling it off while I drive. My left nad is gonna thank me.

 

My thought behind it is that anything inside is fair game. Tint will hide most of it. Just me. Outside….I won’t touch.

 

Wife and I have two carry permits that, with reciprocity, are good in over 30 states, last I checked (Last fall before a road trip). She carries in her purse and I carry strong side IWB. I have a Glock 27 converted to 357 Sig and she carries a G43 9mm (Hint: Massod Ayoob told me to use 146 HP instead of 124 or 115 in the G43==the lighter, faster bullets are too "snappy" for the lighter slide). If we travel to commie states, they go into a locking vault cabled to the seats.

If I am stopped, I roll down the window and place my hands on the wheel. I inform the officer I have a permit and am carrying. Then, I ASK him how he wants to proceed. Never have had an issue!

 

SMART. I’m LEO. I do the same. “I’m off duty Leo, I have a gun on my left side. ID’s are on my right. Would you like me to get them?” I’m left handed. My left hand never leaves the steering wheel.

 

All good, however, I drive in such a way that there is no reason to stop me. The only time I have been stopped in the last 30+ years is because of a brief liscense/sobriety check. BTW, can any LEO here tell me if you need to announce your permit and carry status during this type of stop?

 

Depends on the state if you are REQUIRED.

 

i would always tell them you have it on you. I ALWAYS watch hands. I don’t like if I can’t see them. Things get sketchy if I can tell you have something on you that you don’t tell me about (I have found knives this way… just a bulge. I’ve had three hidden dirk or dagger arrests in the last two weeks) You let me know you have a gun, I feel better knowing where it’s at. Just me. Permit can come later.

I’ll be honest, not sure if it’s required for you to tell us, but it’s always a good idea.

It does appear NC has a duty to inform.

 

Real estate on a duty belt is coveted hahahaha. I'm 5'10" 205 and wear a size 32 pants so I don't have much room on my belt. I went to an external carrier and have everything minus my taser and gun on my carrier. I can get to everything with both hands for the most part.
