It's funny because some people get upset when I refer to the 4Runner as a truck.

My wife thought I was silly until she drove it for the first time and used the word truck.

Many years ago, my dad would ask if we were bringing the van when we visited. He was referring to our 1988 4Runner lol.

It is a truck, it has all the characteristics of a truck minus the bed. It had a bed at one point.

True. The Trekker was just a modified pickup.

We have no kids, so out go the seats. That's a bed for you. My next mod.

I'm on sleeping platform version 3.5. I'm pretty happy with this one, but I can already see myself changing it again. o_O

When it comes to purchasing cars trucks, mods etc, it’s not cognitive thinking, even you believe it is. It is rather driven from conative thinking- an inclination- as an instinct, a drive, a wish, or a craving to have something more. I’m susceptible to it like anyone else and I have a behavioral science background. I refuse to make judgement. What you do with your truck, it is done based on that wish, desire but more so, personal. No different than how you design your home, apartment or van. I’ve learned that what you design is yours. I may not be my look but i appreciate the love people put into it and make it in their vision- no judgement.

Yep, may wife is on her second ev just got a bmw i4
I think ev makes a lot of sense for people like her right now with certain characteristics
    1. Ideally Is able to lease,( because ev technology is rapidly improving)
    2. Has a garage with a charger ( cuz charging infrastructure besides Tesla still not sufficient although it is improving, and also majority of cost saving from ev will be gained from charging at home)
    3. Has another car for long road trips (we use my t4r for road-trips)

there are a significant number of people who meet these criteria, and honestly for them ev makes a lot of sense. Especially if their other car in the household is something like a 4Runner which sucks down a lot of gas, it’s nice to not waste dollars on gas when your other car is just going to be used to go back and forth from work 99% of the time.

Some trims are probably going to have a hybrid option, like the new Tacoma.

Well, they wrote the rules with the intention of helping farmers and people in the trades by not making it too difficult to produce vehicles that they used.

When you define a "truck" and there is more profit to be made by making sure that you make a "truck" versus a car, then the result is more "trucks".

    The idiocy continues.

In 2003, during the Bush administration, they changed Section 179 write-offs to allow significantly faster depreciation for tax purposes for certain types of equipment, which included SUVs that weighed more than 6,000lbs. The limit for these write-offs went from $25k to $100k.

    What do you think happened?

Instead of farmers buying a ton of equipment, you had all sorts of doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc. buying really big SUVs because they could immediately write them off for tax purposes.

To this day, there is a tax incentive for buying a big honking SUV over a car if you are going to write it off for business purposes.

It's funny that people get mad about EV tax credits, while not being bothered that the tax code gives significant benefits to white collar professionals who buy the heaviest vehicles possible.

    Strange.

Having experienced the LA area in the early 80s on vacation, I can say that I love clean air and not suffering from nosebleeds and headaches due to crappy air quality.

We've come a long way since then, but there is still room for improvement.

Hell, it'd be nice if people in my neck of the woods would mulch their leaves, or at least bag them, as opposed to having nonstop burning. I love a good bonfire, but there comes a point to where people create a nuisance - especially when you get a temperature inversion that traps the smoke near the ground.

Not to apoplectic but the reality is fossil fuels mater. One global issue for electricity, the world isn’t ready for it. One dark winter will make costs way more. It’s a create of uncertainty. We need a balance. They will lean into fossil fuels to make “clean energy” that dark winters will drive prices up. I’m all for it but it will take years. I’m all on board with hybrid. Electricity is great but it pulls from solar as long with fossil fuel to generate to create energy. The entire system is a false narrative.

If you dig in nothing is clean. Extra adds from fossil fuel, weather burnt or exacted covers a large percentage of it. Just markeded differently.

2/3rd of our electricity comes from fossil fuel. I like burning my share of fuel in my car, and not in that massive furnace somewhere. And, will folks be ok with digging for minerals here and not in Africa? Or Africa is our dumping site?

Hydrogen is the future, whether anyone believes it or not, it will happen. Very recently scientists managed to fuse hydrogen without any radiation. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, hydrogen fuels the universe. Elon will be forced to put his ego aside and make hydrogen vehicles, kind of like apple was forced to make big screen phones.

It’s not you. It is a belief, root it a brand love from familiar. It’s comfortable it’s easy. I have friends that they love their pic ups and hate them but they keep them. Some weird dedication.

They will fail. Hydrogen will power everything, not just cars. It will power massive plants, and even our homes. We don't need nuclear fission to create power anymore, we can fuse hydrogen free from nuclear radiation.
