Can we ask the guy that owns one to take some measurements for us? I’d like to see the distance from the edge of the back seat to the back of the front seat.

TRD pro also get it. One of the few reasons I have one over an ORP.
Shocks, tires, etc… can be easily changed. Features like auto dual climate and auto headlights cannot

Dual climate control isn't worth not having KDSS, at least for me.

My understanding is the Pro was supposed to have KDSS but it got removed when the logistics got a little complicated.

kdss is not worth it to me. To me off road performance is more important than on road performance for the 4R. Besides I drive the 4R like a grandpa so never had any issue with body rolls. I use my other vehicles if I want to have fun on twisty roads

KDSS has tangible off road benefits, unlike dual zone climate control. That's why the Land Cruiser 200 and GX460 had it, and new 300 LC and GX have an updated version of it and now a Lexus exclusive in the US.

Like I said, 5th gen TRD pro was supposed to come with KDSS but it was axed to reduce logistical cost and complexity, not to improve the Pro's off road performance, which other than the locker, was just SR5 suspension with entry level Fox shocks.

Removing the front sway bar on non kdss 5th gen gives you more articulation than KDSS

pro is based on ORP, not on SR5

KDSS is a package that’s available for the ORP. It’s not standard

You would do that every time you go offroad? LOL

The mechanical parts separating a 5th gen SR5 4x4 suspension wise from the Pro is the locker and shocks.

Without KDSS the pro is just an SR5 with cheap fox shocks and a locker.

No, the sway bar stays in the garage collecting dust.

So how is it any different than a base ORP or any other 5th gen (except for the limited)?

    :/

None, but 10-20k more expensive for some name brand shocks, suspension wise.

I understand that you are coming from a different perspective as a TRD Pro owner, so here is the word: option. The ORP had the OPTION to get KDSS, the Pro never did. if you can't see the difference, well, oh well, I guess just ditch all your sway bars and call it a day. LOL.

The MSRP on a PRO is absolutely not 20k more than the MSRP of a loaded non kdss ORP. Also shocks/suspensions is not the only difference. Might be the only one that matters to you, but there are a lot more going on (like dual climate)

why would I chose an ORP with KDSS when I can get an ORP w/o KDSS when I view KDSS as inferior for me (limits potential mods, more maintenance, potential of very expensive failure, less articulation than front sway bar removal, etc...)
The pro is essentially an ORP w/o KDSS but nicer interior (I'm not even going to mention shocks because that can be easily changed regardless of the trim)

KDSS is great if you want less body roll on pavement. It sucks on dirt road without a bypass, and it gives minimal articulation gains off road assuming no sway bar removal.

I said 10-20k which I know you know covers SR5 base price torward the 20k difference end. We all know why you are cherrypicking 20k to dispute the ORP trim. LOL.

Okay, I see you are emotional since you have a TRD Pro and cannot be reasoned with in regards to the KDSS. No worries. Go hug your TRD Pro and have yourself a very nice weekend :)

Why are you so obsessed with the SR5.
It's very different than the PRO just like the ORP is very different than the SR5 (hence different prices duh)

    Whatever makes you happy...

Aren’t they all the same vehicle with just some different parts and accessories bolted on?

Pro and ORP w/o KDSS, yes (without talking about cosmetic or shocks, they are the same but you get a bunch of comfort features with the pro)

SR5 is similar but doesn’t have some of the “off road only” features that the other 2 trims have like rear locker and crawl control

If the 4th gen SR5 tacoma is any indication, the difference between it and the OR would extend to a smaller rear axle and different front CV axles that are a step down from the OR. So I’d say it’s not just about features, it could be about different construction.

It would be cool if OR and SR5 owners post up pics of both front CV and the rear axles to see those things truly are different, as they are on the new Tacomas

With a ratchet and sockets. Maybe a screwdriver too.

This thread has deviated to the 5th gen so we weren’t referring the 6th gen (I’m partially responsible for that)

to get back on topic with your point though, you’re right, it would be interesting to see the differences between 6th gen trims if the off roading ones have beefier components

I have memory of someone documenting the overhead console swap a some point but also could have hallucinated it.

while nothing is impossible, I think it would require more than just swapping the overhead console (i.e. modifying ECU, etc..)?

Someone actually went through the trouble to add those electronic gimmicks to their truck? Why?
