I believe the increase in performance is only with premium. I was told the newest tune they have can adjust to regular and premium (assuming it’s done through timing advance and the knock sensor).

The biggest quality of life improvement is the transmission remapping. The stock software is really mushy and is optimized for driving comfort and gas mileage. The remap lets you hold gears way more easily with your foot position, which is something that’s harder to do in the stock form.

The new shifts are firmer so you’ll feel the engine rock around a bit more but firmer quicker shifts are actually less wear on the transmission.

Peak performance is obviously with 91+ Octane. However there are still gains to be had on our calibration even with 87/88 octane "regular" fuel.

Good to know! It certainly felt plenty powerful going up the 5 near Grapevine last week.

Definitely not worth it, now the 3rd gen tacoma was such a pos as far as transmission and engine it was necessary

How else would you propose gaining 10% more torque for roughly $25/ft-lb?

For reference, a supercharger is over $130/ft-lb gained.

Also it’s not just peak power. It looks like there’s an increase across all RPM ranges.

    I don’t notice because I drive super slow…

How is your vehicle built? Any major modifications that may need dyno time to dial it in?

You don’t have to go on a dyno to properly tune the Magnuson on the 4Runner. The Magnuson files typically don’t adjust throttle or shifting from stock. OTT has already put the time in on the dyno to dial in your vehicle. Unless you need a sheet of paper to validate the tune, a dyno isn’t needed. Data logging test drives and working with the tuner is all that is needed.

Reach out to one of the tuners on the map below that is closest:

We’ve reached out, but have not been provided one for testing. If that changes, we’ll certainly post the results and our thoughts here.

Hey guys, I just recently gotten the OTT on medium and a N2 designs remote start with take over. My question is when I remote start my car it seems as if the tune isn't active, like my throttle response goes back to stock however the shifting is fine. When I get to my destination I'll push button start my car again and it seems more jerky to me, or my throttle response per the tune is back. Any info or anyone else experience this?

The stock injectors and the upgraded fuel pump operate independently in this scenario. These vehicles use a return-style fuel system, which means that any extra fuel volume or pressure generated by the upgraded pump is regulated and bled off back into the fuel tank by the fuel pressure regulator. The injectors will only flow as much fuel as they are designed for, based on their size and the pressure provided at the rail. Upgrading the pump does not increase the flow rate of the injectors unless there’s also an increase in fuel pressure or injector size.

There's my confusion, upgrading the pump does nothing? Unless stock injectors can push more volume then the stock pump?

Upgrading the pump is necessary in this case because the issue lies with the factory pump's inability to maintain adequate fuel pressure under high load and high RPM conditions when the injector pulse width is high. While the stock injectors are properly sized and capable of delivering the required fuel mass, they rely on consistent fuel pressure to function correctly and meet fueling targets. When the factory pump struggles to supply sufficient fuel volume, the fuel pressure drops, causing the engine to run lean. Upgrading the pump ensures enough fuel is delivered to maintain proper pressure, allowing the injectors to operate as intended and maintain the desired/required air-fuel ratio.

Thank you for the explanation. Thought Maggie should have included fuel upgrades with the kit.

I would have to agree. The 2G Tacoma 4.0L kit is similar. It really uses up all of the available "headroom" the pump has to supply the additional fuel the S/C commands. Aside from that, I really do have to tip my hat to Magnuson's kits. They really are OEM grade and set the standard otherwise.
