Unfortunately, a lot of the zero tolerance policies came from the best and brightest people in authoritative positions.

Also, AI requires training…from lots of the best and brightest people. Not always though, sometimes they decide to outsource that training to whoever will do it cheap.

 

Unfortunately I don't know how to type out my upspeak.

 

This is true, not sure how many quality products exist out there anymore. You used to be able to trust a name brand for quality but it seems a bit more hit or miss these days. All it takes is a new corporate money making strategy to start outsourcing work for cheaper labor and/or materials to increase profits.

I used to work in manufacturing and the CEO's favorite catch phrase was "if you're not growing you're dying". It was never enough to set realistic goals each year and hit those targets. It was always about pushing way beyond or setting absurdly unachievable goals to begin with. I think our culture of never finding contentment has taken a toll on us all

 

It grinds my gears that natural gas stoves are on the way out. It will make my high quality toaster obsolete.

 

Okay, I’m curious now. Who’s under that stormtrooper helmet? Are you Reese Witherspoon or Alicia Silverstone?

 

I miss our gas stove from last rental. The place we bought has an electric stove, although we do have gas in the house. With gas you can adjust the flame to keep your steady temperature. With electric it's either on or off so temp is constantly spiking and dropping to try to maintain an "average" temperature. Much more difficult to cook on

 

If they pry my natural gas stove from my cold dead hands, then I’m gonna start cooking with a wood fired stove.

Speaking of toasters, now that I think of it, I’ve given up on them and just grill it on a nice steel pan with a bit of butter. Ok, a lot of butter.

I got an idea. We’ll build a bunch of houses, pay the workers like $8 a hour. Then sell them for millions without upgrading the sewage system.

I think it may cause physical damage if you try to combine vocal fry and upspeak!

 

Biggest issue we've had around here, since somewhat rural, are farms being sold and big new subdivisions being built on them where almost everyone has a young family. Aside from the increased traffic, I guess nobody thought about the schools? Apparently there was a flood of scores, sometimes 100 kids into an existing elementary or middle school that was already at capacity. Now new schools are being built but it's going to be several years of overcrowded schools and probably undereducated children as a result

 

This grinds my wife's gears because I like messing with her when she's navigating...

Our town next door is in the process of setting new standards for minimum lot size in what will be an attempt to limit this type of growth... Initial reports are aiming to make minimum lot size of 5 acres. I am unsure how this will turn out, but have been keeping an ear to the ground to see what our future here holds. Several council meetings have been postponed or moved last minute.

 

Wow, that's huge! I'd guess these subdivision houses are sitting on 1/4 acre. They're packed in pretty tight. Where we live is pretty tight as well - I think I'm only on 1/3 acre.

I keep browsing lots for sale up and down the appalachians that are 10+ acres. Personally, I'd like 100 acres and a small cabin that if nothing else, I can just get away for the weekend and have enough space to setup my own shooting range. That much land within reasonable driving distance for short weekend getaways is just too expensive.

 

Shitting in a hole in the ground?

 

Wouldn't want to do it 24/7 Alaska style but I shit in a hole on weekends while I'm camping
