New guy from Ohio checking in! Been enjoying my new to new to me 2020 SR5P the past couple weeks!

 

Welcome @laxman09. Happy New Year everyone, maybe this year we can hook up and wheel.

 

Anyone know of a good shop to get a Bilstein 5100 set up installed in the Youngstown area? I might be able to do it myself, but worried I'd goober it up somehow.

 

New (08) 4runner owner here. First one and I'm thinking why did I wait so long lol. Are there any active 4runner clubs or groups in SE Ohio?

 

So going back a page to my post on a half day trip, if anyone is interested, I could do a route of easy dirt roads and a few off road sections this coming weekend (4-12 or 4-13) Sat 4-13 or Sun 4-14. Route would start in Danville and generally is about 100 miles over 5 hours or so, with lunch thrown in. Quite a few photo ops and old bridges and old structures and such to stop and check out.

I ran a portion of it today. A lot was flooded but some was accessible. By later this week it should be good to go.

Well, shit. That's up there LOL. I assumed you were south but now that I look back at page 2 I see it was you I was talking back and forth with and you clearly said you are in Fairlawn then. I am the worst at processing info apparently.

It's been a long time since I banged around anything close to you - Tuscarawas and Harrison and the eastern counties, so while I am happy to head that direction to meet you if you want, I can't promise an epic trip as we will be doing a lot of stopping to consult the Gazetteer, backtracking, etc. If you want to meet more east let me know and we can do that. I'm open.

But if you aren't opposed to coming to Danville (right there on US 62) that might make the most sense. I know the roads around there and kind of did a pre-run already.

Would that work? Say 10:00 am on Sunday 4-14-24? At the gas station on the corner of US 62 and SR 205 (3 S Market St, Danville).

Most of this is 2hi dirt roads, there are a few sections of 4hi and a few sections of 4lo with some rocky climbs or descents. A couple of creek crossings, maybe a river ford if the water is low enough at Horse Cove on the Kokosing River, though I doubt it will be. Nothing that a stock truck with good ATs can't do. This is mostly just a fun drive with some cool vistas and a few neat old bridges and such.

I have a couple of portable radios for comms I will bring as well as some basic recovery gear / tracks / saw.

 

Did you get a new 4R?

 

I did, a 2024 ORP in Solar Octane.

Recommend the shake down before you head west. Did the North Rim 2 years ago and before we went we hooked up with the Wisconsin crew and did a couple of
sections of the TWAT, had a blast and were able to get some miles on both rig and camper.

I think about 1/3 of the track is still going to be flooded so there may be some backtracking and rerouting and such; and some of the dirt sections may have to get bypassed with pavement.... hope that's okay?

I also got to use my sweet poverty build sliding table for the first time so the sandwiches tasted even better off of it....

 

Ironically the most offroady picture I got of myself all day is this one from just now, when I backed down my hill a little ways to pressure wash the underside of the truck so the mud debris would fall on the grass and not the driveway. I missed my mark and went partially down my stairs resulting in some inadvertent flex!
