There are definitely some areas where getting good fuel economy really isn't an option. Just based on the higher speed limits in some areas you're never going to get good mileage.

Motor Trend estimates it at: upload_2023-5-19_12-48-12.jpg

TFL on YouTube states it's the same size as the 3rd gen taco but the PRO and Trailrunner are 4-5in wider with their larger wheels/fender flares.

I'd expect it to be basically the same size as the turd gen - and therefore basically the same size as the second gen.

I was thinking its a bit containing. They say the Taco is an old man's truck, that must be for the ones married a while, so you can't put your hand on the wifes leg.

Is a turbocharged 2.4 I4 really that much more complex than a V6 that has twice as many head gaskets, and 50% more cylinders and valves?

It's not like an I4 isn't more complex as far as engine layouts go. From what I've read the turbo can be pulled out without removing the engine from the vehicle. The engine bay doesn't look that bad, seems to have good working space.

I wished they used a gray cast iron block. That material damps vibrations better than aluminum and the cylinder walls can be rebored. The aluminum they went with is lighter (better for fuel), but it rattles more and the cylinder liners probably cant be replaced if it gets scored somehow.

I like that it looks like you can fit larger tires without cutting as much bumper off. The trd pro and trailhunter are wider. I wonder if that's hugely offset wheels or longer a arms and rear axle...probably the wheels.

No more leaf springs (except a couple lower trims). Going to have to get the rear aligned if you lift it which is a pain. Lot of places can't align the rear. Also more components to lube.

Not much room in the engine bay to mount extra fuses but the higher end comes with 3 fused accessory switches plus a blank.

I really, really, really don't like the two tone trd pro. Reminds me of a camry which look pretty cheap with the two tone. So get the ORP......but I'm curious of that comes with the wider stance and wider fender flares.

Isn't the rear end similar to the 4Runner? A linked rear end with coils. No need to align if that's the case.

Yeah that's about what 3 shops told me until I finally found a place that got my 4runner to drive straight / normal when they aligned the rear.

Trailhunter and TRD Pro will see some ridiculous markups for sure.

Nope. Common view among automotive industry experts is that we are about to witness a crash in the industry that has never been seen before.

Rising interest rates along with a downturn in the economy and a rapidly increasing inventory of new vehicles means that it will be a cash buyer's market.

If I was smart, I would sell my 2019 4Runner now for $36k, stick it in the bank, then scoop up a brand new vehicle in a year or so when the market crashes and dealers are begging people to take their vehicles.

It's been ridiculous for so long, cars, homes, whatever, that I don't think it's ever going to crash anymore. The greed is too high. We're in some bolshevik Soviet economy where used Trabants sell for more than new ones.

Granted, I hope it catastrophically crashes. Everyone's "wealth" in the past couple years came from the rug being pulled out from beneath my feet. Screw that wealth.

Not to get political but shits f***ed. Housing isn't even fair anymore, they need to put limits on who can buy houses. It should only be open to Americans or legal immigrants who plan to live in them, not rich Chinese nationals who are trying to park wealth overseas in land banks. In fact land banks shouldn't be legal, people got to live somewhere and if wealthy people are finding their money difficult to store then maybe they shouldn't have so much of it. Maybe CEO pay should be more proportional to worker pay like it was 50 years ago, just sayin.

Back to cars, it seems impossible to buy no frills vehicles these days. Or companies don't want to let you, you might be able to buy them but your never going to find it on a lot. It always is a special order thing. When my family was buying a manual 2 door Wrangler they had to special order it to get made, there wasn't one in the country which seems ridiculous. The car companies make what they hope to sell, and what they hope to sell is a bunch of midlevel to fully optioned vehicles. They don't want you to buy no frills, they can't make as much money on that. And the Tacomas are no different, maybe that's why 2 door pickups sell so poorly, they never have them when you need them, you have to want it to get one.

Agree on the land banks comment; I find it incomprehensible that US government allows foreign nationals to buy a home and just hold it without any intention of ever living in it. I have heard count stories of folks losing out a home in silicon valley because a Chinese buyer came in with all cash offer and swooped it.

Don't agree with CEO comment :) It is a function of demand and supply, pure free marketplace forces at work. You can argue a CEO does not make 5000% more impact than a assembly line worker, however competition at that level is intense and if you don't pay them high enough someone else will.

    I agree 100%.

My home doubled in 4 years! If I put it up for sale it would be sold in 3 days.

I think since ford listed the ranger raptor starting at $57k, that's probably where the trd pro pricing will start as well.

Or even smarter, sell the 4R for 36k now and buy a nice V8 4th gen or Hundo for under 15k and not have a payment of a new one.
