Who decides what is "true" landcruiser. I am thinking toyota since they own the brand name. And they clearly are calling it landcruiser.
Why do you think it is not "true" landcruiser. So because there are two versions of the 250, I imagine none of them are true?

All they did was designate the Land Cruiser name for the US market from a different model.
    It's like the A90 Supra isn't a true Supra. It's a BMW Z4 underneath. Similar concept.

LC wasn't the Jeep slayer even in its best era.

They may turn the 4Runner into a Grand Cherokee. Grand Cherokee is by far the most offroad worth crossover out there.

The last true Land Cruiser was the 80 series in the US. I just don't understand why Toyota hates front solid axle so much. Why don't they through one in there, it will increase sales.

That would be very sad to see the 4Runner be reduced to a cushy unibody crossover. The Grand Cherokee also got much bigger in the current generation compared to the WK2 which I thought was a more apples to apples comparison.

They will give you a unibody, no solid axle 4Runner and the 4WD system. It will still be better than the Highlander. Not many people even know what a 4Runner really is, they buy them for the looks lol

Seeing that Honda really ramped up the Pilot and giving it "off-road" looks and features, I expected Toyota to follow suit and give the Highlander something similar. Maybe that's where the new 4Runner comes in. It's not looking great either way imo

    Tell me more.
If they have to sell gasoline/petrol version of LC prado outside of US, is there a separate model they sell?

With the 4Lo/4Hi, Atrac, MTS, and rear locker, unibody 4Runner will kill everyone lol. Subarus, Cherokees, you name it. And it will attract people who don't like how trucks drive.

Cherokees, Explorers, Pathfinders, they all lost their solid axles. 4Runner may be next. 4Runner is the OG, very old. It may change.

with it being 84 inches wide now, will it require "raptor" lights for real and not just cosmetic.

Well, in its best era, it was literally a copycat of a Willy's Jeep. So, Jeep capability+ Toyota reliability could equal a Jeep slayer, IMO.

    No, they won't.

There's no reason to even make a unibody 4Runner. At that point, it's just competition for the Highlander.

Grand Cherokees are fine until suspension parts start snapping off.

Just suspension? Here's a pic when new engine for the Grand Cherokee arrived at my colleges house.

Here's a pic of by passing fuel pump relay when its relay failed in April-

He has a Camry and his parents have a RX350 as reliable transportation so he can have a Grand Cherokee.

Newest item on this Grand Cherokee is one of the wheel start a leak (that's a suspicion. need to check.) So probably new wheels and tires the next project. Can take pics when completed but I don't think its good to post here and talk much about it on this 4Runner forum. Just shared this because it came up on this thread.

Hey, the 4.0L was bulletproof. The current 3.6L Pentastar is not bad either. Pentastar is solid

But truth be told, if you want a Hemi in a GC or a Charger, you must pay a price for the fun. Not everybody wants a boring Camry.

I would agree that Toyota decides.

But, I assume they're talking about IFS VS SFA Landcruisers.

I'm not going to bitch until it's reduced to a unibody grocery getter.

Ehh. As much as I hate the BMW collaboration, the new Supra is as much Toyota as it is BMW.

Just because I don't like it, doesn't make it not a Supra.

I'd love to see a SFA Landcruiser in the US market, also. But, that doesn't make the new Landcruiser not a Landcruiser.

If I'm not mistaken, the 100 series had some pretty good off-road chops still, for a land yacht. And, didn't a 200 series Landcruiser with KDSS out flex a rubicon on autoblog tests? It's probably too big for hardcore off-roading, but it had some potential.

Fiat Chrysler product. To be expected.

Pretty much I have some experience with some of the cars you mentioned and they are all in the not to buy list.

Jeep GC - Collegue owned with problems
Dodge challenger (I bet closer to Charger you mentioned) - Neighbor owned and already hearing some clunk while driving by. Changing headlights was a pain having to remove the bumper.
Explorer - Got from my previous work place.
Subaru Accent - Rental while my 4R in body shop after accident. Wheel spin on every bump due to no wheel travel like 4Runners / GX / Tacoma / Tundra has. Probably same for the Pilot someone mentioned above. I have only driven it on pavement. My friend won't come to off-pavement trips as it only has 7.3in clearance.

My Hemi Charger was problematic. But I drove the heck out of it. The most fun car I've ever had. Will definitely buy another one knowing that it will have problems. Chrysler knows how to build fun cars. I won't buy many of their products though lol.

I just think the "true" land cruiser is the full sized 300. I know the Prado name doesn't mean anything to most Americans but wish they had kept it so people realize it's different.

I wish they would just standardize names - I'd like to be driving a Surf

Considering the size of the 200 series, the wheelbase is the same as the 4Runner, the new GX and the new LC -112in!

Land Cruiser is a brand. In Australia, for example, you can buy a new 300 and 79, along with the Prado.

Is the 79 not a true LC? I'd argue it's the truest.
