It looks okay. Could have been better, could have been much worse. It does nothing to make me rethink my plan to hang on to my 2021 4Runner for another 200K miles or so.

One thing to keep in mind is that in all the videos and pics I've seen there is a disclaimer that "prototype is shown". Reminds me of how manufacturers will feature the prototypes and European models on North American commercials (with same disclaimers) because they typically look better than the end result production vehicles.

Wonder what will be tweaked to help benefit the manufacturing process?

Love the looks of the first edition, hate the round headlight version, looks stupid like an FJ cruiser, and there is something very unfinished looking about it too. All in all though I think it is a great looking vehicle. I don't know why everyone wants a smaller 4runner or a removable top. I'd just love to see more cargo space with seats that fold down flat and give you 6+ feet of sleeping space.

Toyota dropped the ball. Definitelly looks like a bronco sport. Why would they do this to themselves?? Why would I trade in my 5th gen to a LC when the LC looks and probably is smaller or the same size? Not a fan at all!

Because the current one is bigger than Ron Jeremy, and getting the tits out is fun.

I read in one of the articles that it's actually a bit larger than the 5th gen.

The ground clearance is terrible for what it's trying to be. A Subaru Crosstrek has the same ground clearance ffs! I don't get caught up comparing it to that of the 300 series, because the 300 series is a giant vehicle with terrible angles, it needs it. But Toyota should of aimed to do better than a vehicle it already sells.

Toyota from the start markets this as an off road vehicle, and it's getting outdone by something they designed 15+ years ago. At least they aren't wasting our time with a 2wd version like they do on the 4runner. They really need to drop the 2wd on the 4runner.

Also holy crap, it's 10 inches wider than the current 4runner! I already think the 4runner is too wide, but Toyota is going for that wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide stance.

You might be surprised at how many 2wd 4Runners they sell. I see them all the time where I live and I am sure in the south, they sell even more. But I would love to see a model break down of sales.

8.3", wow. The TRD Off-road Rav4 has more. Pretty pathetic of Toyota to do that to the LC.

I didn't even notice that one. Wow, I'd never buy the new Land Cruiser. I already think the 5th gen is Ron Jeremy almost to the point of being unbearable. This extra 10 inches of girth is Ron Jeremy getting ready to film a scene with pre-legal Traci Lords :bananadead:

Since the LC is almost like the current 4Runner, can we get a different 4Runner? Something that goes after Wrangler. Two solid axles please like the first gen.

Would love to see that too but feel that would be viewed as "regression" rather than "progression". Will be interesting to see what they do but highly doubt they go back to SFA

I wonder if that is counting the mirrors. 84 inches is WIDE, 4 inches more than an ford F250 without mirrors.

I think the LC width is including mirrors. I saw 78" somewhere else, so still wider, but not Raptor wide.

I think the GX550 is like 78 or 79" too, so the two should be the same.

Makes sense. I wanted a smaller "stripped down" LC back in the day, which was essentially the Prado not sold in the US. The Prado in US market was the GX, but too lux and expensive for me. The true LC in US market was crazy expensive - to the point you could buy a used LX for cheaper because they sold more

Looks like they finally brought it here, just under false badging since it's not a true LC.

Toyota isn't going to bring the LC-70 here so probably the best we can get unless they beat it with the 6th gen 4runner, which seems a possibility. 4runner may be the new king of toyota off road vehicles in North america

Toyota knows what they are doing. The new 4Runner will awesome I am sure. I like that a new LC is coming back to US and it is more affordable than the last US LC.

Even with mirrors, that's pretty wide. Having problems clearing various situations wide. My 5th gen barely squeezes through the stairs to the left and the fence to the right surrounding my driveway. You need clearance for parking spots, too. And the imaginary bike lane on the side of the road.

Do they? Last I heard, you still had to take the cab off to service the turbos on the new Tundra.

Why is it not a "true LC"?

I'm definitely curious what they're going to do. Seeing as the LC isn't the Bronco/ rubicon Slayer that some folks were hoping for, it would definitely make sense for the incoming 4Runner to be more off-road oriented.

If they go to a shorter wheelbase and it has all the off-road goodies of the new Tacoma, and decent ground clearance, I think it could be pretty badass.

A lot of what's been said echoes everything I've been feeling about since the release but I'll throw in my two cents:

    1. This isn't a true Land Cruiser, we know that. Toyota is sending 2 different versions of the Prado in the form of the incoming Lexus GX and now this new Land Cruiser. If you want a "true" Land Cruiser, it's going to be the Lexus LX.

    2. This new "Land Cruiser" is really stepping on the 4Runner's toes. The Prado has always been comparable if not almost the same to the 4R overseas in terms of size and dimensions. Since this new incoming model is coming with the 2.4L 4cyl turbo hybrid that the new Tacoma is getting, and what the 6th gen is/was supposed to have, where does that leave the 4Runner in the SUV lineup? I can't see Toyota reverting back to the redundancy of the 90s where they had 5 of the same cars like they did with the JZX/JZS sedans. Having two of the same vehicles with the exact same powerplant, similar off-road capabilities, almost identical dimensions and comparable prices would make no sense.

    3. If Toyota is going to keep the 4Runner nameplate, will it still be BoF? Or will they butcher it and turn it into a unibody crossover type vehicle which they already have plenty of? Or will they go to the Defender, Bronco, and Wrangler type of style and call it the 4Runner after having little success with the FJ Cruiser in it's most recent rendition 10-15 years ago?

Worst case scenario they turn into an "off-road style" cross over like the Bronco Sport which would be a huge slap to the face to the 4Runner name.

In any case, I'm starting to lose hope in Toyota. IMO, they killed it with the new designs of the Tundra, Sequoia and the Tacoma. After the release of the 2024 Taco, I was starting to get really high hopes for what was upcoming for the other SUVs. GX was a huge letdown and the Land Cruiser certainly is not different. I'm keeping my expectations low for the new 4Runner if there even is one, but I won't be surprised if they discontinue it.
