The photo is not identified but if that's the Land Cruiser 250 there is no option for a non-hybrid according to the reveal video. Perhaps that's a pic of the GX. Land Cruiser is now hybrid, like Prius.

Not necessarily. Toyota is very good at making reliable hybrid vehicles. Also, it has more power and should theoretically get better fuel economy then a non-hybrid version.

I am underwhelmed and don't see much benefit on top of my G5. Dammit @kmeeg teasing me what other markets get.

I like it, but I probably won't be buying one. The styling is ok, and I love the white roof and interior. I'm not a fan of full time 4x4, I prefer selectable. The price is about where I thought it be. But I'd rather buy the new tacoma.

I was thinking the same thing, depending on what kind of gouging the dealers will be doing. Also, provided the resale on the 5th gens remains strong.

I can't wait to see one in person!

Why in the world can't we get this? DOT regs could be met, a T/D engine with DEF and viola!

I am not sure why toyota shies away from providing diesel engines to NA market. It could be that the emissions standard are way higher here, even more so than Europe, and they just don't think its worth their while. Or it could be that regular mom and pops won't go for diesel. Its a shame, there is a market, clearly at least in this community. I figure toyota thinks that market is too small for the hassle of bringing diesel stateside.

-The cost of adapting a diesel engine to Ridiculous US emissions requirements, VS the very small amount of people who would actually buy one. :notsure:

I'll be honest; as appealing as a small turbo diesel is in some ways, the smell of it would drive me nuts. Plus, if we are able to achieve excellent low-end torque and fuel economy with a small turbo gasoline engine, the diesel loses its main advantage.

Still letting my thoughts on the exterior marinate, I mostly enjoy the redesign.

Having issues coming to terms with the interior though, just seems to clash. Not a fan of the steering wheel.

White on silver on gray on darker gray, just a weird gradient.

The wheel does look a bit busy. On the other hand, if the controls are laid out intuitively, it might be kind of nice once you get used to it.

I'd prefer an I6 turbo diesel, but I suppose I could live with a V8.

This is the Land Cruiser Prado and not the fullfleged Land Cruiser 300 variation.

The Prado is essentially Toyotas Asian version of the Lexus GX with minor cosmetic changes. It's quite popular as a step down but still a competent offering from Toyota in all those South Asian markets.

Now the question arises, why would Toyota US after just bringing in the revised upmarket Lexus GX , also launch the Toyota version of it. That's cannibalising your own product. Maybe Toyota knows something we don't.
But more importantly, I am not very hopeful with the new 4R. If they can put a 2.4lt in the mighty LC , 4R is down the food chain.

The LC is getting a hybrid drivetrain with the 2.4 turbo. Maybe the 4Runner will just have the regular 2.4 turbo like the Tacoma.

And, Even if they did offer the hybrid drivetrain on higher trims of the 4Runner as an option, it wouldn't be the first time the 4Runner shared an engine with the Landcruiser.

Its the same company that has GH and sequoia.
It is inexplicable to me, and others on this forum. But that does not mean toyota won't do it.
I am still predicting demise of some of these models in years to come. Maybe sharing LC being so close to 4R puts the final nail in the proverbial coffin of 4R. Its sort of like 4R was merged into the LC 250, not really went away.

I think the 6th gen is still confirmed.

Heck, look at the 80 series next to a 3rd gen. It wasn't that much bigger. Out of curiosity, I just looked. The 80 series wheelbase was 112 inches, while the 4Runner's was 105. Incidentally, the new Land Cruiser has a wheelbase of 112 inches. Maybe the 6th gen will have a wheelbase of 105 inches, lol.

Some folks have lost their freakin minds. Let’s take a deep breath and level set:

We’re going to get a 6th Gen 4Runner. Toyota has said so. They’re not stupid enough to give up those sales.

The resulting BOF SUV lineup makes perfect sense:

    > A 4Runner starting around 40K and competing with vehicles like the Bronco and Wrangler. Smaller than the 5th Gen. Similar mechanicals to the new Tacoma.

    > The new LC, starting around 55K and competing with vehicles like the Defender. Bigger than the 4R and with some mechanical and feature improvements over the 4R, depending on trim level. Starting price is justified by those differences plus the Land Cruiser name.

    > The recently new Sequoia, starting around 60K and competing with vehicles like the Tahoe / Yukon and Expedition. For people who want a big family hauler with Toyota’s reputation for reliability but little interest in going off road and an unwillingness to spring for the pricier Lexus GX.

    > The new Lexus GX, starting around 70K and competing with luxury SUVs from makes like Land Rover, BMW, Mercedes etc. This is the luxe version of the new LC, with more creature comforts, bigger engine and option of third row seating all justifying its price above the LC.

Thus, Toyota will be selling BOF SUVs starting around 40K, 55K, 60K and 70K, each targeting specific market segments. They’ll each have a clear purpose in the market and good prospects for strong sales.

(Yes, I said I wasn't gonna play here no more, but couldn't resist the temptation to see how 4R owners are reacting to the new LC...Now I'm going away again... :D)

Why are those people not buying GH? More 3rd row legroom. 3rd row that folds flat. And not as much a gas guzzler as either sequoia, or its competitors?

I really hate the back of the new 70 series. Did they put all the tail lights in the back bumper? If I’m seeing that correctly, that is super dumb.

people like swapping bumpers and they get damaged. So putting the main taillights there is asking for trouble

Huh? Do you think a sequoia buyer gives a rats ass if it’s a unibody or BAF? Do you think they even know the difference.
