New 4Runner owner, curious if this seems normal to more experienced owners

    It’s right there in the first quote. Let me know if I can get gold certified Toyota pre-owned car at non-Toyota dealership, and a platinum warranty to boot.

    Yea, I thought that was a possibility. The body roll is really well handled on left turns, so idk. The 4Runner’s suspension is far more complicated than my old cars so I don’t feel super confident in assessing what is or isn’t broken.

    And yes, I test drove the car. However it’s very hard where I live to test drive cars above 50-55 mph, and the issues with the car get much worse after it’s warmed up and are extremely bad in hot weather. Even after I noticed issues, for the first week it would often drive perfectly fine <80 degrees, <55 mph, 15 minute drive or less. It’s when those factors are surpassed that it feels fundamentally unsafe.

    Right now, I view best outcome as having a straightforward conversation where they are able to see obvious issues and facilitate trading it for a different one and ending this saga ASAP. Lawyers are slow and expensive. I’m really sick of how much time this is taking up.

    Do you think you can buy gold-certified Toyota Pre-owned cars from non-Toyota dealerships? Who goes around getting their certified Toyota serviced as non-Toyota dealerships? Use your brain.

    Having worked for lawyers, sometimes all it takes is a cursory visit to a lawyers office, and more often than not they will at least write a letter threatening their intentions to the dealership, resulting in your desired refund. Then your problem is solved. Quit f'ing around with this.

    Having a 3rd party look at the vehicle when I get it back and having my lawyer draft said letter would certainly be the next step in my view.

    I would start with a reputable body shop and have them inspect it. If they find unrepaired or improperly repaied issues take it back to the dealer with the proof.Having sold it to you as a non wrecked vehicle and finding out it was wrecked is fraud. Contact your counties states attorney, if he can't help you he can tell you who to contact with the state where you reside. If you have to sue, get an attorney who will make them cover his fees with the settlement.

    Have you tried contacting someone at the Toyota Certified Program about the misrepresentation. I mean, it’s certified. There must be somebody that backs up that certification. If not, it would be nice to know that Toyota Certified means nothing.

    If it CPO means nothing and they wont help, then escalating to a lawyer is probably cheaper than the lost value on the car.

    You’re focusing on the wrong thing. If you approach this as a fraudulent transaction and misrepresentation then case is closed and they null and void the contract giving you back whatever money you spent.
    Do you really have the proof and did the "no accident" verbiage show up in the contract?

    Honestly, the fact that this is continued for days shows that there's a lot more to this story than you're willing to admit. This is a fraudulent sale, pure and simple. You will encounter nothing but legal headaches when you attempt to get rid of this vehicle. The fact that you are considering keeping it shows that you have dishonest intent as well. If you really seek to get out of this with your sanity you need to get a hold of a lawyer, park this vehicle and begin the process of filing a complaint with the attorney general. The fact that you say you need a car and it takes time, blah blah blah, only solidifies that you yourself also have bad intentions here. Good luck to you. YMMV
