Well, as a typical crazed car guy I did not take any of the advice I was searching for – and provided on this forum.

And bought a white 40th anniversary model this morning that popped up overnight and is on the ground at a dealership. I'll have it next Monday!

That’s great! Welcome to the fold! Now the only issue is choosing a stretch of dirt or snow to take some glamor shots on, so that Monday night you can post some photos here.

Congrats--why are they making you wait a week to take delivery, or is that your choice perhaps.

    Congratulations..!!

I believe since 40th anniversary is based on SR5 it has higher payload capacity than TRD models? 1165lbs I believe?

    Congratulations.

So, is the 40th Anniversary a fancified ORP? Just curious, as I don't know much about that model other than the stripes.

I have a 2020 off-road premium with KDSS and love it. The ride is great.

I think it's more like an SR5 Premium with badging.

If so, that seems like quite a diversion from what @Upnorthmn was trying to decide between. An SR5, while still an excellent choice in a 4R, has none of the extra features the Limited & Off Road have, and he was debating, thus the mystery.

I love the limited and wouldn’t actually trade it for a 40th Anniversary. But I get the emotional reaction and his decision to jump at the chance at one. They definitely tickle the irrational part of my brain lol.

I know the anniversary model is just a badged SR5 premium model. We just decided to jump on this new 4runner at MSRP when it popped up Monday rather than pay the prices dealers are getting for late model used higher grade models. If we don’t like it we’ll move on.

I get irrational also. Heck I’ve been thinking about buying another one to use as everyday car. I already have the 21 ORP. I keep thinking one more and I won’t need another vehicle for rest of life. I bought a silver one and now really like the red and mgm

I’m with you. I really considered adding an Anniversary to my fleet, keeping the Limited. Might never need (though would prob still want!) another vehicle. Well, so long as gasoline is available lol.

Don’t blame you dude. It’s pretty damn cool. I’d have gone white too. And if the part time 4WD bugs you, a sale will be easy. Heck, its value might even rise after the new 5th Gens are gone. A lot of people could be meh on the 6th Gen.

I think you (the OP) should get the Limited if you don’t plan on offroading. Or as someone else suggested a GX, since they can be close in price to a 4Runner for used vehicles. If you do get Limited, I’ll echo what others have said and definitely get 17” rims. It will provide a better tread depth, less risk for curb rash, and add a bit to the ride comfort. If truly going to stick to pavement, the Toyota Highlander is a good choice, good reliability record, a little better on road driving mannerisms and much better fuel economy.

Congrats on the new 4runner purchase! The SR5 Premium package itself has plenty of bells and whistles on its own, the extra 40th flair will make it stand out a little more.

Of the colors available in that package, white is my favorite. Too bad they don't make one in classic silver.

Drive it stock for a year then swap out the suspension bits you don't like.

If you decide to punt it down the road, a stock 40th anniversary package will retain higher resale than a modified one.

I just sold my two 2017 landcrusers and bought a new 4 runner premium. I am happy with the move and the 4runner size works better for me. I still have 2 porsches and a new mercedes if I want somthing nicer to drive but honestly, I could drive the 4runner 90% of the time easily.

I can see that. I really like driving the 4Runner — below highway speeds. Which Porsches do you have?

I have a ‘22 Macon s (wife drives it) a 95 911 w/ 28k miles and a 22 e450 wagon. The 4 runner sits at my cabin so we can have a second car when we are there.
You are correct though, I am not impressed with my 4Runner on the highway. In our ski town in Idaho it is perfect for a ski shuttle, fly fishing, logging road and generally messing around truck.

I owned a 100 Series for around a decade and often lament selling it. Have also owned a ‘21 GX for a few months (couldn’t get over my hatred of the front end) and now a 4Runner.

I will say the GX has way more of an LC vibe while driving owing to its much taller greenhouse. And the V8 is a smoother mill than the 4.0. When I traded in my GX for a 4Runner, it took a bit to adjust to that.
Likewise, the much more janky steering wheel.

All that said, I have utterly no regrets getting a 4R. Especially with KDSS which I did not consider getting a 4R without. However, if cool with the GX front end, mighty tempting. Especially post ‘21 when they added CarPlay which drove me batty not having considering the price.
