    Agreed. The business I'm in has supply chain issues that prevent us from even building machines. And the vendors for a lot of these parts don't have enough qualified employees to QC their items prior to sale, let alone manufacture the stuff. So because the business needs to sell stuff to survive, a lot of parts get 'tested' in the real world, and failure rates rise.

    Many manufacturers of things, including vehicles, had to halt production for extended times due to a number of pandemic-related problems and constraints, chip shortages, etc. No business is set up to just eat those costs, not even the really big businesses. Once things got rolling again, all of the manufacturers had to sell as much as they could. As someone mentioned, Toyota even began using cosmetically flawed parts just to get units out the door. So I suppose it's not a huge surprise that there are some problems.

    You mean crossovers which are basically cars with an SUV body? Durability is huge for being in a truck, extended idle times, hauling loads for hours on end in extreme temps up grades etc. Sure you can take a car motor and tune it for good torque numbers down low and think that's good enough, but it also has to be able to handle truck duty.

    Crossovers are designed for towing and hauling, also. And, what part of being a truck involves extended idling times?

    In case you missed it, my other post said "reliability aside", meaning that the specs are better for "truck duty", and reliability is still a question.

    /If this continues long after I'll start getting concerned. But it's still relatively new, and everything was changed from the engine to the frame during a parts shortage. All brands had worse quality because of covid and it's still not back to normal. I read complaints of 3rd gen 4runners from back in the day, new models have always had quality problems at the start (we don't see them because those examples have been fixed or taken off the road by now).

    There is no excuse for 4runners to have problems after 14 years of production.

    The fake engine noise is the dumbest thing, and enthusiasts hated it from the beginning. If you can't turn it off then why not just remove sound insulation? It'd accomplish the same thing and remove unnecessary weight and free space. If they were afraid that people couldn't tell it was on, then maybe Toyota should of questioned whether they needed that much sound insulation in the first place.

    I'd wager that anyone buying a truck for that type of "truck duty" is not looking at anything made by Toyota.

    Edit: in the US, at least.

    We had a Armada for awhile……the Nissan 5.6 HP is waaaay underrated, it is a strong running hot rod engine. The body is like my Dodge Cummins……the best hotdog you ever had wrapped in a moldy bun…

    My 90 would be the exception to that rule mainly because of it’s 1st gen driveline. For us back then it was perfect solution for a cheap reliable family ride. 4 doors and a driveline reliable as a pet rock.

    I just recommended the Armada to a friend. Love the big ol’ old school V8. Woulda recommended the Sequoia had Toyota not made all those changes for the new Gen, so it’s much like the new Tundra. Oh well.

    I hope these quality issues don’t happen to the 6th gen, when they move production out of Japan to the US or Mexico.
    Thank states like California for the fake exhaust noise. Manufacturers can’t put a slightly loud intake or exhaust on a car that is 50 states legal. Just look at all of the cars that come with a loud exhaust from the factory. They have a flapper system that only fully opens the exhaust when you go into a track only mode of some kind. Manufacturer’s pencil pusher comes up with a brilliant idea to just pump some cool engine noises through the stereo, as if real car nuts won’t notice the difference. Next thing you know, full EV cars are trying to sound like muscle cars; reference to the movie The Dilemma.
