Surely Toyota can make a more efficient, reliable 4R with the next generation.

A Hybrid 4R is about the only thing I would trade my Pro for. I didn't take an offer for $55K last month because I wanted to keep my Pro and see what the next generation has to offer.

I just traded a tundra trd pro for a 4runner orp cause they announced the tundra hybrid. And 4runners hold better value.

Imagine a t4r prime with 50 miles of plugin hybrid range!? Buying that for the significant other when it drops. Rumor is it's going to share platforms.

Got 19.6 l/100km ~ 12 mpg today on a highway, 140 km/h average speed, 33" BF Goodrich KO2's and Icon stage 2 suspension with approx. 2.5" lift. No extra weight, outside temperature -17C, no major headwind, flat terrain. Computer readings, not adjusted to the tire size and actual fuel consumption, 5-10% error. Ouch...
After the mod I got a feeling that the truck became sluggish and wants higher RPMs all the time on highway. I would expect this on mud tires, but I have just not so fancy ATs, any thoughts? Is it normal?
Never had to step on pedal when it was stock. Now it feels that I have to push it all the time. Here come MPGs.
I still have a set of winter Bridgestones. I wanted to sell them but now I will check them out on new suspension. I wonder if they put the truck back the way it was. It's interesting what makes the mod so bad with MPGs on highway, lift or the tires? I will keep you posted.

    Lots of goodies
It has nothing to do with the tires being MTs or ATs. The extra unsprung weight difference and change in effective gear ratio because of the taller tires is behind the sluggishness you are feeling.

Your cruising speed was the biggest issue. 140 KM/H is about 85 MPH. Above 65 or so, mileage tanks. These things are the opposite of aerodynamic.

An example, from my experience.. With LT/E 295/70/17 MT's, I've gotten 19.9 MPG at 55-60 MPH, and, generally around 12 MPG at 85.

But, the added diameter and weight is definitely a factor. MPG goes into the crapper worse with bigger/heavier tires.

I was thinking about 33s but will probably stay with 32s. The biggest thing is if you don't need load range tires, stay with SL or XL for mileage. Considerable rolling weight difference and less tread life in E and C range tires.

I am running a 2” lift, 265 KO2, light winch/bumper, alloy skids, and a Gobi. I usually don’t carry around much extra stuff. My dashboard average sits at 18.7 mpg. If I do a reset it usually won’t crack 18 mph until I take a road trip.

Load range E and C are heavier rolling weight too

You stay in 4th gear a lot at 85 don't you? I only use SL or XL tires which limit choice with 20s. Everything is E or C. I will probably go with 275/60-20s. I have good power right now as 4runners go. I get my electric fan on and it will make a noticeable difference in low end torque and engine response. Not as much drag at speed either. I usually pick up 1 mpg. Pedal Commander helps a lot but I'm going to get the Overland Toyota Tune one day. Supposed to help the confused transmission shifts. I run 4th manual around town for better pulls and less braking without affecting my mileage. I need 4:30s out of Tacoma. I get 19mpg in town and 22mpg or more on interstate now. First place I have lived people know how to drive. I practice not using brakes once you learn the red lights. Brakes are for quitters or is that rehab?

I have noticed I get better mileage at 69mph than 70. How much farther apart are your shifts when accelerating? I am guessing going from 31.6 to 33 will make final drive ratio around 3:50-3:35 taking engine longer in each gear. I seem to get 19mpg at 75-100 mph. I need a bigger speedometer for the long winded 4.0. I run out just as it gets into the running rpm range above 3200rpm.

Load range E or above tires? Suck life right out of it. Some are 15-20 lbs a tire heavier and with bigger tires
That's not bad for E range. I can get E range in size I would like, but I'm getting SL Revo 3 in next size up in SL. They were best all around tire for everything for me and excellent treadwear. I drove 36k miles just to work and bought a set of tires every 18 months or so. It's really hard to find a tire that does everything well. Usually you have to sacrifice handling, wet or all terrain or tred wear , but it did all well.

I thought every 4runner owner was buying a gas station a little at a time. I will need that meme soon.

I think resale will be high on 5ths for a while. Then again there may be a flood of trades. I know I am not buying first year production model from anyone. I hope they make factory parts past 20 years. I don't want more technology on a vehicle. I started collecting factory CV rebuild kits. You can get a rebuild rack from Toyota for $288 which seems reasonable. I don't know how hood struts wear out at 196k when you seldom use them.

You will have to replace battery in about 12-15 years most likely. Buddy had Lexus rh400 and it needed a $2200 Dorman rebuilt. When it was available. They should make a standard size battery to reduce costs if they were really serious about fake climate change. I read Toyota and Panasonic have made a solid state battery breakthrough that could give 1000kms of range and 20 minutes to fully charge. Game changer?

There will be a lot of these around. I will trade gas for parts any day. I'm like you. It will be hybrid. Toyota is not that interested in full electric. They know petrol will always be here. GR 4runner with 300hp Corolla engine. Saudi Arabia isn't building wind and solar. Where you going to charge your Overland 4runner in BFE.?
