I thought the Ridge Grapplers were great tires. I replaced them with the Mickey Thompsons. So far, I'll continue to run Mickeys until something else better comes along.

I might be blind, but I didnt see the XL version of the 285/70-17. Only the LT tire, which is load E. Are they the same thing?

The LT and SL tire look very different to my eye. The SL has that nice round sidewall profile that looks nice on a 4runner. The LT looks more blocky and …and to be honest makes me feel tingly inside. But it’s heavy.

Thanks for the great review Paul, I stopped by at my tire place I deal with the owner all the time. Putting these on my brand 23 4runner Pro. Not a fan of the Nitto Terra’s. Done this before with my tundra and 4Runner he will hook me up and buy my Nitto’s and I won’t have to put much out of my pocket. I like the tread on these.

Figured I should probably update this thread. I've had the tires for just a hair short of a year now. Still love them. Quiet as can be. Over the summer they hit the beaches of Ocean Shores, WA. No problems whatsoever.

@McSpazatron No. E load is LT spec, xl is p spec. I think they only do E load in 285/

I've run both and prefer the Mickey's. Both are great tires however. Could be subjective because they're newer, but the Mickey's are unmatched in wet and snow grip.

I’m glad this review was resurrected…the factory Bridgestones are a disappointment and I’m looking for a sturdier replacement. As a Pacific Northwest resident I’m on city asphalt and backcountry logging roads in the same day.

Plan on getting the Mickey's in xl 265/70/17 and putting them on TRD off road rims. I want them to stick outside the fender do you think these tires will poke?

No they will not stick out. You need wheels with negitive offset or wheel spacers.

As @hossler1788 mentioned, you won't get any poke from stock size tires without spacers, or wheels with a different offset.

Stock OR wheels are +15mm offset, IIRC. 0 offset puts the tires almost flush with the fenders, and a negative offset will begin to poke out.

Negative offset will also lead to rubbing, which can usually be corrected with a little trimming, or adjusting the inner fender liner and mudflaps.

Also, don't go too crazy, as there are laws about how much tire can protrude from the wheel opening. In Wisconsin, it's 2" from the original opening (aftermarket flares don't help). It doesn't seem like this law gets enforced very well, but it's good to be aware of it.

If this is true i may try them. I went with Duratracs for this exact reason (wet/snow & mud), nothing seemed to come close. Though there are new Duratracs that look similar in tread pattern to the Baja Boss.

I dont have apples to apples comparison between the Durtracs (Tacoma) and the Mickey's (4Runner) but specifically wet traction the Mickey's seem the most planted, especially after they wear in.

Glad to see these tires get some props. Saw them on another truck and they look like Lion eaters. Sounds like the performance matches the looks.

Are you gonna lift it a little (Westcott Designs??) and mount 285’s?

This time around Mike I’m going to stay with stock sizes knowing what it looked like before on my AG Pro I thought it still looked good being lifted and stock size tire. Plan on westcott lift in a few months if I decide to lift it.

Lift or no lift it will look good with the Mikey Thompson tires. They are chunky for sure! I really like the Falken Wildpeaks I put on my Tundra so I stuck with those for my wife’s 4R. Looking forward to your opinion on the Mickey Thompson’s.

I notice that they look good lifted with stock size tires as long as they have some sidewall tread. Post pics after the wheels and tires, and after the lift!

Sounds good my friend. I’m also trying to find some info on the toytec lift that is installed only on the pro Fox suspension. Cannot seem to find anyone that has it on their Pro. Most have the westcott lift.

A friend on Tacomaworld just got a set of these and he seems pretty impressed. Also, another friend has them on a Ranger and he hung with me pretty well on some trails in July. I can see these becoming one of the more popular AT tires.

Keep the feedback coming! I'm going to need to replace one of my sets of tires in the next year or so.

I think Eibach makes a heavier spring for those Fox shocks to give it lift. I’m pretty sure I’ve ran across a thread on here talking about it.

Yeah that what I had on my 2020 AG springs lifted it. But now Toytec has the springs and the spacers to lift he front. Stronger spring and spacers. But my concern with the Toytec it lifts the 4runner higher then the westcott I believe and may not want that.

Hey James, Yeah these tires are a hot item. I’m lucky my tire guy has my set for me. He is taking my Nitto’s and giving me these for a great deal like he did on my other Toyotas.

@PVT Pablo Have you also ran the Toyo Open Country AT3 how did you like them and between these three tires what would you rank #1, 2 and 3? Thanks for your feedback!

So I didn't run the AT3's, I had the original Discoverer AT's, they were fine tires, had great wet/dry grip. Didn't test them in the snow/cold as I was stationed in the Caribbean at the time.
