Looking to trade in trd sport 2wd

Can A-TRAC be engaged/used in 4w-High? thanks! (2022 ORP)

 

Don't tell anyone, but I'm shopping used Wrangler Sports and Rubicons. It wont replace my 4Runner but I want a trail rig / toy. Haven't decided on 2 or 4 doors yet. Leaning towards a 2 door. Looking to spend around $15k cash for the vehicle + upgrades.

Ideally I would trade in my 2006 Nissan Frontier and save on Missouri taxes.

The aftermarket for Jeeps is cheap. $200 winch bumpers & $500 rear bumpers with swing outs!
Top of the line suspension systems are also cheap compared to Toyota. Way more choices for adding lockers.

When they say "It's a Jeep thing" that really means wrenching on your vehicle mid trail ride and carrying a full set of tools.

Best to park those older Wranglers outside so they don't burn your house down.

 

No, you need to be in 4low. But you can use Multi-Terrain Select on it's lowest setting - mud, sand, gravel.

 

With the supply of new TRs nearly shut down, I would suggest you don't get too particular as to options. Get the 4WD and something with ATRAC and lockers and plan on putting good AT tires on it. If something with All Terrain Select appears grab it but don't limit yourself to it. Unless you are rich forget the Pro with its ridiculous above MSRP prices. IMO it's a bling option anyway. I drive deep sand, rocky ledges and sometimes mud. I do not seek out difficult rock climbing. Not fun for me. I have used all terrain select in deep mud. Have never needed it in sand. I have never needed to use my Crawl Control.

 

I have a TRD Off Road and have enjoyed it, features like the crawl control have been useful on some of the more challenging uphill and downhill sections we've used it on, and I like the security of knowing I have the locker if I need it.

Realistically, I could have gotten most of the trails with a 4x4 SR5. That said, I opted for the TRDOR to avoid a situation where I would have regrets. T4Rs are expensive at all trim levels, so it was worth it for me to just get want I wanted from the beginning. The spread between the non-pro trims is pretty reasonable once you start comparing them to a 4x4 SR5

 

Look around, consider options. But dont overcomplicate. The 4runner spoke to you for some reason, maybe because it’s the whole package for you. Remember why it spoke to you and why it seems to fit.

I just got a TRD 4R Sport for my wife she loved the way it looked and now loves the way it drives.
Hard to understand that some options were not available (Heated Seats and Dual Zone AC) but she loves the visibility without the sun (sorry Moonroof) ...
She will never (intentionally) OffRoad but loves the way it drives.
We live in a hilly and in winter snowy part of NJ, so 4WD was a must and preferred over AWD.

PS, Landcruiser is no longer in production.

Chrysler /Jeep products have severe quality problems in my experience. Had to sue them over the transmission on my last one - and yes, I won.
