If it’s a 2021 it should be your set up. I just did my trd pro this week. What are you having issues with? Just twist and remove the bulb that’s on the back of the headlight. Takes 5 seconds unless the limited is different… but it should be the same.

These are not headlight bulbs. They are lower power fog light bulbs.
From the product description on Amazon:
“Fitment: 9006/HB4, 9005/HB3. Can be used as daytime running lights and fog lights, but please note these bulbs are not headlight bulbs , confirm which model you need before purchasing.”

Good lord. I’m a dope. Thanks for the quick responses…. The harness I took a pic of was the dtrl harness. It controlled the high beams. Note to self… thought is was a good idea to work on the wife’s truck for an easy project after having some alcohol…… nope not so much. Woke up this morning and was done replacing them in a blink of an eye. Thanks again for the help lol

Thanks for the clarification. Easy enough to remove and return. So is there a replacement that makes the nasty yellow DRLs white and is still capable for high beams?

This is only for the models that have high and low beams in projector housing and the 9005bulb in reflector is only a DRL.

If your 9005 bulb work as both DRL and Highbeam you need to get proper highbeam LED with DRL driver. Ex- Xenon depot LED Pro with DRL driver. Or Any other highbeam bulb with DRL driver.

    Here's an example-

I didn’t care what other drivers think of my yellow halogen DRLs. I just want them to see me coming at them in the daytime.
And I wanted higher power and brighter high beams at night. So I converted 65W 9011 halogen bulbs to fit in the 9005 high beam sockets. It’s very easy and it’s low cost. Much better performance and people have been doing this mod for over 20 years.

21 and up Limited’s and PRO’s (and now all 22 models) use the LED bulb/light for LO and HI beams. The 9005 halogen bulb is for DRL only. 20 and earlier limited’s as well as all other models, the 9005 bulb was both the DRL and HI beam as referenced in the video above. The connector in your picture is for the LED, not the 9005 bulb now used for DRL only and referenced in this thread discussion. You cannot change out the LED. There is another connector next to the one you show for the 9005 DRL bulb, which can be replaced and changed out as described in this thread.

Daytime Running Lights have been debated for many years all around the world. There have been numerous studies with a variety of results, pro, con, and neutral for how effective they are. And how safe they are. Some people are worried about them being so bright that they blind oncoming traffic during the day. (But what about at night? LOL). Others are worried about excess power consumption. Others don’t like to be regulated. I remember on my 3rd Gen which had DRL‘s on all the time, there were dozens of mods posted in forums on how to disable them. At least now in the 5th GEN we have a switch to disable them.

Other studies looked at how effective they were in northern latitudes where it was darker or cloudy or had less sunlight during the day. Versus sunnier climates with better daytime visibility.

i’ve never seen any study that was conclusive for all circumstances one way or the other. The data and test conditions were all over the place.

All I can go on is my own experiences where I’ve been following a semi on a two lane highway, on a straight section, on a clear sunny day, heading somewhat into the sun, finally get a break in the oncoming traffic, do my best see what is ahead, pull out to pass, and then see in the distance a car approaching. If it has headlights or DRLs on it’s much easier to judge speed, distance, and the time you have to pass. You have to make a pretty quick judgement sometimes. A dark gray car on a gray highway is harder to judge. Especially if it’s traveling at 75MPH. I can see the benefit.

I’ve aborted passing a semi many times because I could see and judge the oncoming traffic was approaching too fast. DRLs help me see them.

Have you ever driven on a road that had a sign “Daylight Headlight Section”? Some study by some agency determined that headlights or DRLs will reduce accidents in that area. It’s required on certain mountain highways with curvy sections (at least in CA) that are prone to bad visibility or sight lines even in good weather, or have had a history of head-on collisions.

I use DRLs always during the day to stack the odds in my favor as much as possible.

Lots of info out there on the google machine. Here’s one.

Good info. I've never once used them on a vehicle unless it turns them on automatically. I can see the benefits during those fringe weather days and why it would be good to have them on. My Subaru turned on automatically. Never once turned on for my two 4R's and my Jeeps never had them.

I like that they match the side parking lights. They aren't as bright as the stock halogens (probably because the housing is built for halogens). But they're DRLs so don't really care about brightness.

    Did amber DRLs as well.

Rewired from 6v to 12v using the iJDMTOY 9005 harness and followed the wiring diagram from the .

With the Auxbeam bulbs in Amber the light output is similar, if not brighter than the stock DRL setup (and I've yet to see any flickering).
[edit: no longer available. Try these Auxbeam bulbs instead]

i don't want to hijack the thread but I accidentally cut a wire on my DRLs and the wire is too small to solder. Does anyone know what socket I have to buy so I can wire and solder it with a longer wire? thanks

I would go to the dealership and talk to a service advisor. They should be able to help you.

I know this was asked a long time ago, and much of the discussion has been on how to get LEDs working in the DRL position, but here is how I'm using my DRLs as both low-intensity DRLs and as high beams:

I like my DRLs, and halogen (so far) is fine with me, so I came up with the above design using a 3PDT (three-pole, double-throw) relay which retains stock DRL function, but also gets you high beams from your DRL bulbs (triggered by OEM high beams).

When this circuit is "at rest" DRLs function completely normally. When you hit your high beams, the bulbs are taken out of series (which runs the bulbs at 6V) and put into a parallel circuit (which runs the bulbs at 12V each) and you get high-beam intensity from the bulbs.

I've wired up my DRL bulbs in this manner and it works flawlessly. (There is a tiny bit of switching delay as the relay toggles and the halogens warm up.) Also, as you all well know, halogen bulbs do not put out the bright white of LEDs, so your down road light looks...well, a little funky.

(Oh, one thing not shown in the drawing: Put a switch between the high beam trigger and terminal 'A' so you can disable this mod as necessary.)

No claims this is the only way, or even an elegant way, to do this, but it is functional, cheap, and it doesn't damage (too much) your factory wiring (you do have to tap into your factory headlight harness to get a high beam trigger--use a Posi-Tap!).

I do not know on which model years this mod will work--I only know for sure it works on '22s. The basic design should work on any 4Runner with halogen DRL bulbs in the old, pre-LED-high-beam, high beam location. (Pretty sure that's 2022+ and 2021+ Pros and Limiteds.) Also note it only works with halogen bulbs in the DRL position--LED drop-in "bulbs" do not like to run on 6V (though this thread has identified some that do).

(Disclaimers: This mod is not encouraged; not guaranteed to work on your vehicle; for off-road use only; YMMV; not valid in California; no deposit, no refund; modify your vehicle at your own risk and peril; buy a multimeter, learn to use it, make peace with electricity. [IMG])
