LED DRL for 2021 TRD Pro

the '21 Pro/Limited and all '22 models are bi-LED projectors, so it only serves as a DRL with no highbeam functionality. for older models, it's prob worth looking into higher end bulbs.

 

For 2021 Pros and Limiteds, and now all 2022 models….the halogen bulb is DRL only, no longer high beam as on previous years. As a result, these bulbs are low cost and do the job. I agree, I would not recommend these bulbs for high beam function. I have XD bulbs in my ‘14 that have much better performance, but much more expensive. But for those of us with mentioned models where the halogens are DRL only, these bulbs are just fine.

 

Good point. I forgot about that. My '21 has the halogen high beam / DRL and I've replaced them with HIR bulbs. Nice little upgrade.

Now, if only we knew how to make these halogens work as high beams again… does anyone know how to do that?

 

I just installed a set of these in my 2021 Venture. Working great.

 

They are best for those who have DRL & Highbeam on same bulb. Best as DRL mode but not as bright as similar priced ones as a highbeam.

But for 2021 Pro / Limited where the halogen bulb is just a DRL these are not worth the money IMO.

I replaced my 2021 4R DRL w/ LEDs. went with lasfit brand all around for LED swap interior and exterior (brake, reverse, signal and switchbacks)..
no issues at all and no relay needed. lasfit are all built in with relay..

LASTLY I did put in the DRL LEDs and they did not turn on.. what I read is that you have to take the e-brake off and put the car in drive to activate the DRL..put it back in park and you're good.. hope this helps..

Man, I wish I was super comfortable messing with my new Runner like you guys lol.
Just took delivery last night, I asked the dealership today about a LED DRL add on and all they had for me was a whole new headlight at $1080 a pop lol.

Anyone in az wanna come do this mod for me?!

Hahahaha seriously though, if anyone has any recommendations for a good shop that could do this for less than a million bucks, I would be so appreciative!

I don't know if 2022 ORP got low and high beam in projector housing or the bulb in reflector act as both DRL and Highbeam?

If the 9005 bulb in reflector act as both DRL and Highbeam you can swap with a good LED bulb with DRL driver like Xenon Depot LED.

If the 9005 bulb in reflector act as just DRL may be buy something cheap from Amazon like mentioned on Page1 of this thread.

Turn on High beams and see if the bulb in reflector is on or not. If it is on with High beam that mean its used as both highbeam and DRL.

 

Looks like the same bulb for both high beams and normal headlights

In that case I would try the one "bomtest" used.

For those models that have LED projector high and low beams, the halogen DRL bulbs are wired in series so they get 1/2 of the voltage. It seems that Auxbeam bulb @bomtest used is functioning at that lower 6 - 7 volts, but it’s probably struggling, hence the slight flickering you notice.

The proper way to do it is to wire each bulb to get the full battery voltage and use LED bulbs that are designed for a dimmer DRL output. Using a simple modified sub-harness and Diode Dynamics H7 HP48 bulbs.

I installed 10th G (aka 10th GEN) Fanless 9005/9006/H10 60W LED on my 2021 4Runner Venture and have had good success with them. They do not not flicker at the lower voltage when the DRL are on and are bright when the high beams are on. Had them on my 2008 Subaru WRX STi and they worked well, so I installed them on the new 4Runner.

If you do order these make sure to tighten the two set screws, set 180 degrees apart from each other prior to the install into the headlamp housing.

I believe they also have a 2 Year Manufacturer's Warranty.

The ones linked on page one. $20ish on Amazon. i will say they are much more dim than I was hoping but they are just DRL so it’s ok. They are very white which I like.

Just got around to ordering mine and installing them. I am happy and for the price you can’t beat them.

 

Has anyone done the Amazon auxbeam led's in amber and have pictures of it?

thanks for sharing! that's what I want amber LED DRL.. I've seen the Auxbeam amber.. feedback on that brand seem good from what I read. If anything, I will put back in my lasfits LED for my DRL.

I think my all black 4R with amber DRL and possibly amber rap lights would look pretty sick.. maybe it's the SF Giants fan in me, lol..

 

Dumb question and need a little help. Ordered these lights for dtrl. ‘21 limited. Low and hi same bulb. There is a 4 pin female harness that plugs into the male harness but am I missing a tab on the bottom to access the bulb? Any help greatly appreciated. This is what I’m working with
