Safety and Emission regulations will make that thing very expensive today, not worth it for Toyota.

Hmm. I take it you haven’t been to Austin, TX. There’s an FJ cruiser in every block. Maybe they all, sold here.

Yes. I got a 2024 as well, last year of the V6 and proven reliability. Had a deposit down for a 2025 but after reading all the recalls for the new Tundra and Tacoma I decided to get this and get my deposit back and in 3-5 years i can always trade in if I love the 6th gen but most likely i wont be able to afford one

Yeah, okay Clyde....just like the jeep CJ, Ford Bronco, International Scout, Toyota FJ and Land Rover. These vehicles have done nothing but appreciate over time. Why? because simplicity and reliability never goes out of style, especially when your 30-miles off the beaten path. See you out there, and remember to keep your rev's up!

For 90% of new owners in 25', this won't be a problem. But I'm curious how the new engines will handle water and
a build up of mud, sand, and dust.

Agreed. Most average consumers buy it because it’s the latest and greatest and some for just the name. In my opinion they don’t look at the way most of us here on the forum do and don’t know anything about previous generations. Beautiful vehicle though and if I were in the market I would get one before I couldn’t as well but most aren’t like us here.

You’re actually wrong the new tundra v6 turbo and new Tacoma 4cylinder turbo (same engine next gen 4Runner will get) prove it. They have the worst selling numbers of all time for Toyota not only because they are grossly overpriced but because everyone hates them!

Say... wonder what will happen when very cold water hits that red hot turbo housing... what could go wrong there???

I'm wrong a lot, so I may be here too; however, the new Tundra and the new Tacoma don't prove it, because my post was about "time". You're talking about a truck that came out in 2022 and 2024 respectively. My post wasn't about price or emotion ("everyone hates them"). So, although I may be wrong, your post, relative to mine, makes no sense. Are you sure you meant to quote me?

My 06 Tacoma had the same engine as my new 2024 4Runner. That's why I bought it.

Same base 1GR FE, but a revision was made to it with the Dual VVT-i on 2010 thru 2024 4Runners.

Nothing different than when it hits a hot exhaust manifold or catalytic converter.
.Turbos have been around the better part of a century, this is not new technology. In other parts of the world, most off-roaders have been turbodiesel for decades.

Good to know. I would never be concerned about hot exhaust manifold or a CAT. A crack on one of those is not the end of the world. My thought was the housing on a rotor spinning at high speed with possible rapid contraction from the water. I have never had a turbo apart, so I don't know what the clearances are like.

Turbo diesel and turbo gasoline engines are not even remotely the same this is a very poor analogy

Dude, FJ Cruiser wasn't a vehicle to sell 100k units a year. Think!
They didn't quit, they still make them. They just don't send them here.

The person was giving you a little banter
They are "technically" both 4.0 1GR-FE engines
HOWEVER, there are some slight differences, in the heads, and the oiling system, and where the oil filter is. Also the 4R has dual VVTI on the intake and exhaust cams where-as your Tacoma only had single VVTI on the intake cam. Its technically still a 1GR-FE 4.0 regardless of which vehicle its in but "SOME" people want to be uber technical and try and say its a different engine because of those differences.

They were hard times. It had a good couple of years, hitting the 50k mark. But then 2008 happened.

56,000 units followed by 12,000 units the next year. Is that natural? Lol. FJ Cruiser was born at the wrong time.
