I wanted to circle back and post after looking through this forum for so long to decide on tires. I couldn't be happier with the results in looks and ride. I even sit a little higher and didn't even think about that until I noticed the first couple days I kept catching my foot on the door ledge when climbing in haha. I'd guess it's about an inch or two higher. The ride is so much smoother than what I had before (which weren't OEM either, but don't remember what size they were). These don't rub at all in forward, but do a little on the right when reversing if I try to go full tilt on the steering. I might heat and bend the wheel well but for now just drive accordingly.

    They are BFGoodrich tires: ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2 - SIZE: LT265/60R20
Pics of course don't do it justice but they look perfect and have even had a few folks comment on them!

They look soooo good. Wish they have in non LT tires in that size. All seem to be Load E tires..:(

Wanted to reach out and thank y’all for this thread. Just got some Falken Wildpeak AT3 275 55 20’s put on today. First shop denied me since the wheels were “too small”. Glad I checked around. Love the look and the ride. Cheers.

LT is for Light truck rated tires. It will have load ratings like Load C, D, E.

Other type is Passenger rated tires. It will have Load rating like SL, XL.

I placed Michelin Defender LTX M/S 275/55/20, on my 2017 4 Runner Limited with the stock 20 inch wheels, earlier this year. They do rub slightly on the plastic wheel well in front of the tire. This should be easily fixed with heat gun. I looked everywhere and was not able to find anything on this particular tire. I like the way it looks and drives with the new tires. I was not a fan of the stock Yokohama Geolandar's. I thought i would let you guys know just in case you were looking at this tire. I don't think i would go any larger, sadly if you don't want it to rub you might want to stick with the original tire size from the factory.

Hey Ruster34, I’m about to purchase the BFG KO2 165/60/20 for my 2020 Nightshade, any regrets you have up to this point??

THANKS ruster34, I followed your lead and upgraded to BFG KO2 165/60/20 on my Nightshade. Drives like a new SUV, sort of like my old SR5 and Limited had a genetic designer baby. I Love it. Fronts rub in reverse full tilt (a little).

Looks tough! I am new here, but same scenario but different. Have a SR5 2011 but my wife wanted 20's like the limited so bought her take off. Should have kept the stock 17's, planned on it then she talked me into selling them!! Huge mistake. Now the 4runner is mine and looking at bigger tires for the 20s and very limited. I too am going the 265 60R20 route. Was thinking on doing a front 1.5" level to avoid any rubbing. Going to th toyo open country at3's. What has been the final outcome with this size and any rubbing issues? Will I need the front lift or no? Thanks!!

Looks like 275s are the wheels that come with the limited? I have a trd sport model that came with 245/60/20.

I put 17s on my 4runner but giving them to my brother for his truck, so I'm thinking of going back to 20s again. I like the look of the 20s more then the 17s.

    Thanks AGS92.
Mine is 5th gen limited. Through the Toyota Tire Center website, I chose the optional 275/55/20 size for my 4runner, which is Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015. Installed at one of Toyota dealers' store. Stock wheels.

I have to say I am pretty satisfied with the new tires. And they don't rub at all. Even turned full position, there is still more than 1 inch space between the tire and the fender liner.

    Hi All,

Thanks to Ruster34 and others in this forum thread, I also put some 265/60R20's on the "families" (wifies) 4runner. I did some heat gun adjustments and the tires look and ride great. It has been great to get information like this off the forum and we are looking forward to seeing some snow this fall with great tires on our vehicle. I would post a photo, but looks to be the same as above, with grey limited stock and KO2 tires. Mine might be a bit more dirty.

Wifie wanted some attitude instead of light tires. I think these fit the bill. Its a big step up in traction.

    Thanks again,

    FeRangerXXXV

Glad I found this thread. Looking at new tires for my wife's 2018 Limited. Was going to level it and go more aggressive on the tires but I don't want to ruin her ride, lol. Looks like we'll probably be going with Nitto Terra Grappler G2W's, 275/55R20. Guy at the tire shop said he had them on his suv and they were a good ride. When I lifted my Tacoma I knew the ride was going to suffer a bit but nervous to do it with the wife's ride, lol.

Mounted on the 20x7 Nightshade wheels. They fill up the gap quite nicely. Tires don't rub surprisingly. About a quarter inch of clearance at full lock. Dry performance has been good. Barely any tire noise and the ride is smoother than I thought. BFGoodrich reps told me to run them at 35 PSI and they feel great. Haven't had the chance to drive them in the rain or snow yet, but will update when that happens. After coming from the Yokohama OEM tires, I am very happy with the way these turned out. Got them for around $300 a tire. Let me know if you have questions about this setup!

Looks great. I'm in the process of finding the same size tires for my wife's 2018 Limited. Tire shop that I deal with recommended Nitto Terra Grappler G2W's. I told him I was nervous in ruining the ride quality and he said these were pretty smooth. If it was my vehicle I wouldn't be as nervous but can"t wreck the wife's ride, lol. Did you have mudflaps and have to remove them? Just curious if I would have to remove them on my wife's truck. Good to hear that the ride is smooth. I was looking at the KO2's but the shop said it would ride rougher with it being a light truck tire.

The stock tire came with TRD Pro (Nitto Terra Grappler G2) was noisier that BFG KO2 and handle poor compared to KO2.

If you compare Nitto Terra Grappler G2 Standard Load vs BFG KO2 Load C would ride rougher. If you get BFG KO2 Load E it would be even rougher. The tougher ther tire the rougher the ride. Especially BFG KO2 Load E has 3 ply side wall and most All Terrain tires will have 2 ply side was.

Been a 20in tire the ride would be relatively firm than a 17in tire as 17in tire has more cushion / rubber. So 20in tire with higher load rating would make the ride rough.

My 4Runner didn't come with mudflaps from the factory. You may be able to clear the mudflaps with the bigger tire size. Even if they rub, I think it will be pretty minimal. If you have more questions about the K02's I'm running, let me know.

Like a lot of others, we ended up installing 275/55/20’s on my wife’s ‘15 Limited. Tire choices in the oem size are very limited at best and the skinny 245’s just look stupid on these things. The tires we went with are the Nitto Recon Grapplers. So far they have performed very well and are very quiet for an A/T tire. For Christmas we did end up replacing the factory wheels with a 20x9 version of the newest TRD wheel. 6B4A1DC5-7632-4F65-A758-F72E19972F5F.jpg D51A1F46-325D-4BC7-A231-131EAA05AFE6.jpg 84E7CF58-378C-4855-BCDF-202FD28035E2.jpg 6D9C0E61-4778-4F52-BAD3-51874598C010.jpg 59E3AC40-F379-4A0B-9F3C-620777D69AF3.jpg 73FF9982-A9B7-4972-9D02-B859269C54B2.jpg

So I don’t have a 4 runner, but I have the 4 runner rims I’m going to put on my tundra, but I’ve been looking at 275/55/r20’s cause that’s what everyone else says to put on it, but certain tires in that size say they are rated for a 8.5 rim instead of the usual 7.5 rim, so is there a difference between all 275’s?

Very interesting back and forth ...
I decided to go with 275/55 20 BFG Trail Terrain, 2nd choice Yokohama Geolander A/T. My local Discount dealer refused to order/install either one. I noted that 275/55/20 was spec'd as an alternative tire size for Limited's by Toyota. No dice, he says, very politely, that it is a "safety issue" for them, as "wheel is too narrow for that size tire", no matter what Toyota says. I like Discount pricing/service/after sales help, etc. -- but what to do?

Correct. Same story for some stores deny to install 285/70R17 tires on TRD Pro wheels. Try a different Discount tire shop, they might be more flexible.

I did find some coopers that should fit it, and they are 275/55/r20’a, I was just trying to make sure they would fit

Find a real tire shop. Why do business with a chain company? Just cause of the prices? You can still buy from them, they even offer free shipping and will ship directly to the shop mounting your tires.

Wouldn't it be nice to know the person doing the work to your 4runner?

But if its unsafe you might get the same response elsewhere

A lot of useful info in this post!
My question is to the guys that went with the 275/55/20. Being that some shops are refusing to install per safety standard, do any of you air down and off road with this size tire? I am in between a 265/55/20 (taller side wall) or a 275/55/20. I will have a 2" leveling kit installed for either. Although i really do like the stance of the 275 set up i would be concerned when airing down in rocky terrain.
Thoughts please? Valid assumptiom or not?
