KDSS Vs. Fox

Is that tundra that bad?

 

I think with the new improved part that issue is solved. But haven't followed up, so don't quote me if I said anything wrong about the fixes.

 

IMO the best route is a non KDSS off road trim. You can upgrade to whatever suspension you want and still be well under the premium mark up of the TRD Pro.

Hearing some of the stories about KDSS issues put me off on it, so I deliberately looked for one without it when getting my 23OR.

 

They both have pros and cons. Of the two, I would take KDSS for low speed off camber off-road situations, and the fox set up for high speed stuff. But, I wouldn't spend the money on either one if I was planning heavy modification.

Neither. If I were building a rock crawler, I would start with a non-KDSS off-road, or an SR5. Then I would do a long travel set up in front and ditch the sway bar.

Seriously, if you are planning serious suspension modification, start with a lower trim . That way you are not throwing your money away on fancy suspension upgrades.

KDSS is very cool and adds a little extra flex from the factory. It also helps reduce sway in cornering. But, it will ultimately become a limitation.

The fox shocks will end up getting junked as soon as you decide to go long travel, or even want to do a proper suspension lift.

 

Have you looked at the specs at all? Even the non-hybrid 2.4 l turbo is going to be a massive power upgrade from what we have now.

 

The Tacoma and Runner will never have Tundra powertrain. The turdo 4 popper will do well but you will have to get used to off boost power and detuning due to temps.

 

i fear turbos lol. The new LC looks very cool though.

Nah, the 4 banger will be fine. The V6 has it's own quirks like no power.

 

A lot of people like the 1GR, myself included. Even though it's noisy, and doesn't make a ton of power, it has a very good reputation for reliability. For that reason, I don't blame you for wanting to avoid the turbos.

On the other hand, way more usable power and better *potential fuel economy do sound pretty enticing at times.

 

I checked the specs of the teeny tiny 2.4 on the LC. 325 hp and 465 torque WTF!

 

I do love the new features 2023 has like Toyota safety sense, 360 camera, heated steering all that jazz. But you'll be surprise that I take care of my 2019 with non of those features over my 2021. Eg - when I have to go out to take my kiddo to school or other place when we have a chance of thunderstorms I keep the 2019 safe in garage and take the 2021. I'm thinking my 2019 would last longer without any problems.

Sadly Limited don't have a real key. It has a key fob. I keep the key fob in a faraday box and its in garage with door sensors connected to security system. So less likely to steal while its at home (hopefully, knowing CO is the runner-up for highest vehicle theft.).

 

not sure it’s helpful but we were pretty happy in moab with the flex we got out of our KDSS setup. We were dobinson lifted on 265’s and with ATRAC + rear locker it was basically a point and shoot experience on slickrock.

 

I wish i could remove all those gimmics and bring the price down. $47k would be sweet. i need cash for ko2s lol

If you wait a while, you could probably get some of those new KO3s!

I got my Pro for ORP price, so It wasn't really a compromise. I also favor the OEM+ look and function, so the Pro fits into that nicely. I honestly would have been just fine with the SR5 4x4, but then the ORP isn't much more for what you get, so it's easy to talk yourself up trims. Just depends on what you REALLY want/need it for. KDSS just seems like it adds unnecessary complexity unless you plan to benefit from it.

 

I will give u my Rav and some money. My Rav is paid off and has a real key and a V6.

 

I got it because that was the only one available at the time and I didn’t want to wait. Honestly I’d have preferred a stiffer OEM ride kdss promises, than what I have now.

 

Hybrid like the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro (yes another complexity in addition to the turbo).

 

Pro with the sway bar removed

KDSS has less articulation than non-KDSS with sway bar removed. KDSS also reduces front approach angle. The hydraulic lines and valves mounted on the frame are vulnerable to rock damage.
