It looks like a Wrangler, you can't tell them apart from the front. It is not the best looking truck, I'll give you that.
You can get the Rubicon one for as low as $55,000 if you really push a dealer, but folks will pay $67,000 + $5000 markup on a Tacoma TRD Pro

The price on the new Tacomas is definitely ridiculous. The Gladiator is a much better value right now. Also, the Gladiator looks a lot better once you lift it and put proper tires on it

Looks like Gladiators suck so bad their rear axles fall off.

The light weight is one of the reasons that the Cherokee is such an effective recovery rig for Matt's Off-road. He's said quite a few times that the light weight is a huge asset in the sand.

Haha, this is the 2nd or 3rd time you've pushed me towards the JT. You're not wrong, I'd love to have one. I agree that they're great trucks, and I actually really dig the look, especially when lifted.

I thought about it hard when they were blowing the 23s out for 40-ish. I know someone who replaced their 3rd gen Taco with a Mojave, they absolutely love it on the logging roads in the Northeast. I just decided I didn't want a car payment, and even 40k was more than I felt comfortable spending on a vehicle. Also, I haven't driven one, but the thought of the 3.6 in one of those doesn't do anything for me.

As for replacing my aging 4Runner, it's going to hit 177k this week. It runs great, but I'm sure it's time for new ball joints and bushings all around, plus the suspension kit I've yet to install. Then new tires. Selling it now and putting that money into something else does crosses my mind occasionally, but anything else will be more $$, and I know once I take care of that stuff getting another 100k out of it will be no issue.

I drive at least 20k a year, not sure I want to do that on a Jeep. I'm no Toyota fanboy, but I'd trust the 4Runner more for high mileage.

I wish I had the money to buy a Prius or something for a commuter and a JT for a weekend rig.

I think it's almost comical how much better the Ranger Raptor is than the Taco TRD Pro for 10k less.

Why anyone would buy a TRD Pro is beyond me.

A Subaru can handle the logging roads with ease, just be careful of the tires. I really wanted one before they came out, not a fan after seeing one, I was hoping for something more like the old jeep truck, not a jeep with a bed attached.

Toyota used to have reliability behind it, Ford, well found on road dead.

There's a 2024 Ram 2500 Power Wagon for $68,000 in my area. And some clown will pay $67,000 plus markup for a Tacoma TRD Pro

So the 2.4L Turbo will last but the 6.4L Hemi won't?

I didn’t say the Hemi wouldn’t, I said the taco would.

and again, two very different trucks. Let’s compare grapes and watermelon

Toyota is selling a small truck for 2500 price. And the Power Wagon is not just an ordinary 2500, it has two lockers, two solid axles, and an electronic sway bar disconnect. It will beat the Tacoma TRD Pro on the trail, and tow it to a shop after its pathetic tiny diff breaks on the trail

Now that we have the wrangler, I spend alot more time on those forums. Seems like alot of threads I see everyday are about something not working, how bad stellantis is, or poor build quality. Think Im in for quite a ride. Cross my fingers for the next twelve years :anonymous:

Is this a Jeep vs Toyota discussion or new 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro vs Ranger Raptor/gladiator.
Most of what I know about jeeps comes from anecdotal reports, or consumer reports. And those are really bad, enough for me to sway away from them completely.
In free economy any inefficiencies -- like lost value due to an inferior revision of a product -- will be accompanied by corresponding reduction in price of goods that customers are willing to pay. So "Gladiator is at or above tacoma pro quality AND is cheaper by 10K" both can not be true.

If I am shopping for a taco, I’m not comparing to the big freaking dodge.

if I’m shopping Tundra, then yes I’ll look at the power wagon.
And why don’t you own these fantastic fords and dodges?

I do own an old Ram. I don't own a Power Wagon because I don't need it. If wanted to spend $67,000 on a pickup, it surely won't be Tacoma or Tundra. Their competition is better.

With the 5.7L Hemi and 8 spd automatic, 3.6L costs $3,100 less. 4x4 with BLD and LSD.
How much is the new Tacoma SR5 with its pathetic 2.4 turbo?

I'm not a Yotaholic, but owned a 2021 Wrangler, 2022 Wrangler and currently own a Super Duty. Toyota isn't the only game in town, and.isnt always the best in town...or on the trails.

This shows how nasty the companies can get when it comes to their bestsellers. $66,000 for a turbo 4 Rubicon 2 door. Boycott the scumbags! Buy an old TJ and build it, throw a 2.8 Cummins in it and have fun. It will still be way cheaper than this thing.

Seriously guys, I don't have fan loyalty to any brand. Use your money wisely. Right now these are the best deals, GX550, Gladiator, Frontier, Ranger, Wrangler Willys, Ram 1500(Hemi and 3.6 only), Camry LE, 5th gen 4Runner, cheapest Challenger with the Hemi, Sienna LE, Rivian truck and SUV, Diesel Tahoe. I think all kinds of vehicles are in that list, choose whichever suits your needs.
