I also need to replace a blown dash speaker (drivers side) on my '18 4Runner Limited. I just ordered a set of Kenwood Excelon KFC-X2C speakers and will replace both OEMs.

QUESTION. What is the correct wiring configuration? I read two conflicting comments in this thread.

    A. Yellow and green for positive, black and purple for the negative
    ~OR~
    B. Purple and green get jumpered together and black and yellow together

P.S. I tried to order the OEM speaker from OEMPartsQuick but they replied saying: "According to your VIN, the correct part number for the drivers side dash tweeter speaker is 86150-35120. That part is considered hazardous by Toyota and we are not able to ship it. Our parts catalog indicates the part ordered will not fit your VIN. Please let us know how to proceed with this as the ordered item is a non-returnable item. We can cancel and refund this order in full if you wish."

Did you ever find a solution? I am in the same boat. Found OEM replacement for $240 but don’t want to spend that much.

So I went with Infinity 3032CFX 3-1/2" 2-Way Car Speakers from Amazon. About $50 bucks. These are larger than OEM so I did need to cut out some of the plastic to make them work. Someone posted a great “how to” if you can find it. Sound is great!

i just replaced mine with kicker 3504 and they sound so much better & louder. Kept the factory capacitor on the green wire! Very happy, especially for $50

Finally had a chance to try this out myself and I can confirm that just connecting yellow to the positive speaker terminal and leaving out the green (just capping it off) is at a minimum slightly better.

The mid-range was improved with the green wire disconnected. I felt there was too much treble when the green wire was connected. I don't think it's a huge difference, though.
