Why are these monkeys so stupid? Put it in 4hi and the noise goes away… that proves it’s not due to tire

Check VIN digits 4-8 Mine was RU5JR it was listed under "additional information" on the top right portion of the T
That's part of the TSB. I plan to take a copy of the TSB with my VIN code highlighted and I'll also have a picture of my dif build date sticker.

On both occasions (old and new tires) I showed them the issue and the 4Hi fix. Happened on both drives and I was able to prove there was an issue and not the tires. Showed them the TSB (for 19s), as well as other complaints from owners with a 20, 21, and 22 4Rs This week I should hear about a new diff, they submitted the claim. I will post an update.

Same VIN digits, @RUNNER4DAN. It sounded like the tech found the TSB from speaking with him. Seems hopeful but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I appreciate all the information and help. More to come.

I was not able to pull up the TSB information on the phone. I will have to try on a PC.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t part of the TSB to swap tires. They just do it (or tell you they did it) for the show. I also wouldn’t doubt they’re doing it so they can bill you more when they tell you it’s not the needle bearing.

The TSB is about identifying a noisy bearing, and it sets out the fastest/cheapest way to diagnose it. This problem goes away once you put it in 4wd, so that’s the first step. It requires no work. You put it in 4wd, if the noise goes away, you automatically eliminate the tires as the source of the noise. You can’t suspect tires anymore.

If it still makes noise, then the should probably tell you it’s not the needle bearing, then ask you for permission to proceed for further diagnostic work, like changing tires.

Yeah, it sounded like they were going through some sort of process of eliminate. At one point, one tech said they would need to change drive shaft to see if that’s the issue. However, I spoke with a different tech and he eliminated the drive shaft immediately.

I never said that the TSB mentioned tires. It goes through identifying that there is a noise, shifting to 4H to see if the noise abates, then checking the build date of the differential to see if it falls before April 11 2022. There is even a picture of the differential tag. If the diff was built before that date, a full diff replacement is required. After that date a repair is required, not full replacement.

It covers 2031-2024 and lists partial VIN numbers under additional information.
On mine it was the 4th through 8th numbers.
    RU5JR

I could not post a direct link to the TSB, but if you copy/paste the link I provided you will get a PDF that you can then print to take to the dealer.

Sounds like a lot of hassle with a good chance of the issue recurring shortly after the work.

whoops, I quoted the wrong person. My post was reaction to a previous statement that the dealer swapped tires to rule out tire noise, instead of shifting it into 4wd.

Got the call from Toyota. They are honoring TSB 0075-23.

Hoping the new parts resolve the issue for good. From reading here, some have great results and others not so much. If it fails again I will go the ECGS route.

I received the ECGS bearing kit today. Very fast shipping and excellent customer service. They even contacted me to let me know I duplicated part of the order and they corrected the issue.

Just had mine replaced under the TSB. Drives great now.
