    The 2023 is a 5th generation. I have one. You may find a 2022 on a lot.

Eh, I think it's time. Maybe the 6th gen will be better. Maybe there won't be needle bearing issues, steering wheel shimmy, shitty highway gearing and complaints about a lack of power.

I still love mine, but I'm ready to see what the next version is going to be.

I’ve enjoyed all the 4R rentals I’ve had over the years, but can definitely see where improvements should be made.

I’m pretty anxious to see what Toyota has up their sleeve, and how well it’s all executed.

I too am ready for a 6th gen.

I look forward to a hybrid version as it would suit my driving habits.

There will inevitably be first year issues with it and some growing pains along the way just due to the nature of it being a new platform in many ways.

A bunch in the anti-change camp will use this as proof that Toyota has gone downhill, it's unreliable, or that quality is now poorer (especially if assembly is moved to Guanajuato).

I'm confident Toyota will make the appropriate tweaks within a couple of years and it will still be a very reliable, high quality vehicle.

The new design will not be out till 25? Toyota is making too much money on the 5th Gen. Talking to my dealer where I would be getting another 4runner Pro said orders for 24 are the same Gen.

Mexican made Toyotas are better in ways than US made domestic competitors, but to not expect a step down in quality going from Tahara to TMMBC or TMMGT is not realistic.

Sales are down quite a bit from last year. But with the Tacoma expected to come out in 2024, it shouldn't be a surprise they'll be waiting another year for the 4Runner.

I read somewhere that its supply issue not demand issue. For instance they are still selling at or above msrp and sometimes customers are on wait list. They are making less of them (maybe because they want the chips to be used for higher margin vehicles?). Toyota has faced more challenges than other car companies with supply chain issues.

This'll get lost in the wash with new-gen introduction issues.

I haven't heard that, but I wouldn't be surprised to a degree. Tacoma and Tundra sales are up quite a bit though.

No not confirmed. Did you just assume there will be a 6th gen 4Runner at all? :p

Jokes aside, it would depend on Toyota's market positioning for the next 4R vs. Land Cruiser. One possibility is making the 4R lower cost than it is today, then assembly in Mexico would be fair game. "Want Japanese quality? Pay $15k more for the Land Cruiser"

My wife's 2023 BMW 230i was made in Mexican plant. I believe the Mfg makes the standards to hold up as it's their name on the vehicle??

I have 62,509mi on my 2018 TRD OR. I trade when I hit 75k or start the process. I will be working from home starting 31-Aug-23. So that'll cut my 220 mi a week commute down significantly. I should be good till the 6th gen. comes out unless they bring the FJ back. Had 2008 & 2012, loved them & I don't need a true 4door, never had one until this vehicle. Tacoma Access cab was too chinsy inside I had between FJ's & 4Runner.

standards is one thing but a technician in a tahara plant is, I bet, way more experienced, and skilled than someone who in Mexico plant.

%100 agree & the human ethics too. The Japanese have such a tradition of pride in their work. I can only hope the Mexicans do too???

Japanese are still running the plants even though they are located in Mexico.

Tijuana plant has won quality awards.

Tacomas, Tundras, and Highlanders that were not made in Japan have made it to the million mile mark.

New Tacoma is already out with Turbo charged V4. Turns out all manufacturers are down sizing engines due to government restrictions on emissions. I hope 4runner will keep its big ol' V6.

So far new Tacoma seems to be bigger, same in length but more beefy. I assume 4runner will also get bigger.

New tacoma is like 2 inches taller only to solve the bad seating position. They claim to have solved it.

It's wider but only the wheels stick out more. There's not more cabin room from being wider.

So while it's technically true that it's bigger. It's hardly bigger.

Why do I keep seeing references to "V"4?

Is Toyota putting an engine configuration in the Tacoma that defies all logic with regard to balance and efficiency, or do people just not know what they're talking about?

Because people are stupid and they know there's v8 and v6 so they think it must be a v4.

The iforce max is in-line 4.

Its the US government... All those engines are becoming smaller and smaller because of emissions. Same reason 4runner V8 died. This is reason why everyone is thinking 4runner V6 will also die along Tacoma V6 that ended with 2023 year.

What other reason can you think of manufacturers abandoning big engines? Its a win for them because it costs more on market, but they can't make them anymore because of government policies on emissions.

However, I think China and India should be ones reducing emissions, literally they are overcrowded countries in EVERY WAY. Especially China. Cities covered in pollution so bad that its like a fog. They are ones hurting this planet more than we do.

Don't get me wrong, I understand this is only home we have and we need to take care of this planet but like bro, those 2 countries make up almost 50% of world population and China has double the number of emission released than we do, and India comes after.

Smaller engines get better MPG so if we use less gas we're less dependent on other countries which is a national security issue.

Air pollution lowers average life expectancy by 1 year 8 months on average world wide. If you live in a bigger city your life expectancy is lowered by 2.2 years.

We keep having the hottest summer on record so to hedge bets is probably a good thing to try to reduce emissions.

China has done a lot recently and hopefully will continue to do so. They just reduced emissions by 40% in seven years whereas the USA reduced its emissions by 44% over the last 30 years. Hopefully both continue to do so and promote other countries to follow suit.

But we should all want EV's in the long term. The tech is in its infancy. Battery and motor tech will all get drastically better than it is now. The total cost of ownership for an EV will be far less than a gas car. Maintenance will be next to nothing. We'll live longer, more comfortably, people will have less asthma, be less dependent on other nations, and hopefully have a more moderate climate with less extreme weather.

But for whatever the reason, ultimately yes, the government is the one who steps in and makes regulations because that's what governments do. I don't think "the government" in and of itself is really a reason or answer.

I’m curious where that 40% comes from on chinas emissions?

Pretty sure the CCP could give two sh!ts about emissions.
