I really should start pacing…it makes it look more normal. I usually just stand in one spot and go into my own head. Anybody that bumps into me in this state usually feels the need to ask if I’m doing ok :p

Totally unrelated interior mod question for the group…does anyone know of good floor mats that come in gray or tan? I really don’t care if the color looks dumb in a 4runner, but as I’m getting older I think I’d rather just see what I just dropped the floor. I wouldn’t mind it brightened up the interior a little bit either.

Added this Velcro-backed tactical pen and flashlight holder from the 5.11 store. Sticks very well to the headliner as is. It’s handy!

ok, stupid question but since I've seen a couple mounted in this thread and I've always wondered...how do fire extinguishers fare in the dead of winter / summer heat?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I live in Texas, and this is the first year I've had it mounted. If it explodes, I will make sure to tell the entire forum immediately.

It's over 100 degrees today and my truck is parked in the company parking lot, uncovered.

How does YouTube work with this? I use YouTube with my phone through Android Auto and AAAD to listen to music and other channels but it has to be connected to the car. The only issue I have with this setup is it will occasionally freeze up and restart.

I would like to know how to do this on my OEM radio. My kids love to watch youtube/movies on the head unit on trips etc.

Yes, my daughter loves watching YouTube videos while we drive and I use it as my endless supply of music. I've hooked my eight-year-old daughter on 80s music. She now loves The Cure, The Police, etc.

I use Android Auto on my phone and my car. You have to download an app called AAAD and inside it, you download Fermata Auto, which allows you to play YouTube on your car's screen even while driving. It doesn't cost anything. If I remember correctly, you will need to enable developers mode on your Android phone to change a couple of settings. There are videos about how to do all of this. Unfortunately, it only works on Android systems and not on Apple phones. This may have changed and there are probably other ways of getting what you want to do to work. This was what worked for me. Good Luck.

Not trying to be the buzz killer but careful with turning the center console display in to a movie theatre.

in some states, CA for example, it is illegal to run movies/tv on a fixed screen in direct view of the driver.

I'm in Texas, so not much dead of winter here...but summer, we already got dead of summer here

I've had factory fire extinguishers mounted in a couple of cars since 2017, with no problems

Since 2021, I've had a fire extinguisher mounted in my 2000 4runner using the bracketeer mounted to the passenger seat front floor bolts...no issues either

I just check periodically, and make note of the inspection date on attached tag, to make sure they are still full...pin in place and no leaking

here is what I used to mount in the 3rd gen...

    Oooh look, another mod.....

This is what Google has to say when I asked "How hot can a fire extinguishers get?"

Fire extinguishers are generally designed to withstand a range of temperatures, but can become hazardous when exposed to temperatures above 572°F (300°C). Underwriters Laboratory (UL), a product testing organization, requires that fire extinguishers be able to survive exposure to 175°F for seven days. This test is not stated on the extinguisher label, but the label will indicate a safe storage temperature range of -40°F to 120°F.

So, yeah...I'm totally safe storing my extinguisher in my SloRunner in the middle of a Texas summer. If anyone is unfamiliar with Texas summers, the middle of August is the most brutal time of the year. We average 109; in the shade. I'd venture to guess that if I parked my truck in an uncovered parking lot for 4 hours the inside would rise to 150+ degrees.

Phoenix summers and no issues. Have a 2.5lb halotron mounted to a MOLLE panel in the cargo space and I've never seen it even creep out of the green on the pressure gauge. Was good in VA winters too into the 20s.

They should be M8-1.25 thread so straight swap. I did a universal ball knob for my shifter.

No, I didn’t have to make any mods to the FJ Cruiser shift handle to make it fit.

That said, the FJ Cruiser handle is threaded deep enough for it to bottom out on the shift gate if screwed down as far as it will go. I made it work as is by putting a few dabs of blue Loktite on the shifter threads and checking for clearance between the handle and shifter gate when installing. The blue Loktite secures the threads so that there is no movement with the handle.

I read that some have inserted a short threaded stud in the handle to prevent bottoming out but I didn’t need to do that as the blue Loktite holds the handle in place just fine.

    Cheers’
    Bob

Did you create this part, or did you buy it? If so, where can I order this?

    Oooh look, another mod.....
It took longer to get it out of the box, than it took to install it. It slides and clips/locks right into place. When I say it took longer to get it out of the box than to install it, I'm not joking. Installing it/mounting it took under 2 minutes.
