Bodies don't have to be strong though. You see bodies rust away all the time but it doesn't make the car unsafe because it's only there for aesthetics and aero. Making all the panels out of steel is unnecessary, all it does is decrease the payload weight.

Of all the possible fuel saving tactics, going from steel to aluminum body panels is the least impactful.

I don't want to save fuel. I can afford fuel and I don't believe in all the Green nonsense. Any problem with that?

you're going to have to elaborate "I don't believe in all the green nonsense" for anyone to even respond.

You don't want to save fuel? you like throwing money away for no reason? It's not like the 4R is making 500hp at 17 mpg. You're getting nothing lol.

    At $3 a gallon....it would cost about $35,000 to drive a 4runner to 200k miles.

That's $35,000 at reasonable gas prices.

Gas is likely going to be $5-7 a gallon in the not distant future.

He's trolling. Or he actually believes it's all made up, in that case there is nothing we can say that he hasn't been told already, people who deny it will always come up with an excuse not to accept something they don't want to accept. Let's leave it at that.

Anyway, I think the new Land Cruiser looks good. The grill got smaller, which is a small miracle. I don't like the giant Lexus hourglass grill, so it's a step in the right direction. I'm not impressed with the approach, break over, and departure angles on the Land Cruiser. I think Toyota could of done a little better with that.

I have a problem with your tone.
Your response to every post is gibberish with nonsensical analogies.
If someone tries to even make a post explaining about something, you shut it down with your absolute child like retort.
If you actually 50, then that dumb sticker that you just put on your car that talks about some goblin farts or whatever says a lot about your mental capacity to hold an adult logical discussion .

Sad part is, I just flew back home and my plane went over Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania... barely any visible snow on the ground. This is the second winter in a row with little snow to no snow where historically there was snow. But let's just keep pretending the climate isn't warming up. :bananadead:

I mean based on how much we've destroyed the landscape, factory farming, deforestation, coal electric plants, cities, exhaust fumes... yeah that's all that's causing it.

What do you get? Softex in the lower trims?

And I agree, I think most buyers will be swayed to stick with LC or the 6th gen 4Runner.

the cost is what it is, but someone has to pay for the R&D on the new power plants that had to be done to comply with EPA, CARB and various government mandates.

We don't know how many low trim "Land Cruisers" Toyota actually will make and ship here, it's not like customers can order them in the traditional sense, and we don't know how much the 6th 4R will cost either.

Actually, a Toyota buyer normally does not upstep to a Lexus. Most of his needs are met with a newer, fairly modern Toyota. At most he might cross over to a Honda.
Now people looking at a GLS or a X7, or even the smaller GLE,X5, Q7 they are the ones Toyota wants to attract with the Lexus brand. Upmarket materials, modern comfort features, latest tech all in a package that shouts realibility.
These prospective buyers are the reason Lexus exists. Of course, there is always some up shopping, upgrading etc happening within the same brand.

I don’t think the outgoing GX model has been as desired overseas as this one will be. Regarding 5th gen 4Runners, this year has already had 5 vehicles stolen from the local 4Runner group, all from their driveways overnight. Estimated that all end up in the port of Montreal and shipped to Africa. One guy had his broken into twice in a 10 day period. First time was rear window break in, and he got that fixed and then they broke through the damn sunroof! We need a street cleaner that dumps these garbage thieves in the a container to ship them overseas.
