    ^ Not in all cases.
I was at a trail head airing down my TJ and just waiting around for somebody else to wheel the trail with. It is a popular trail.
A little time passed and eventually a group of 4 toys rolled up. 2 FJ Cruisers, a Tacoma and a 3rd Gen.4R.
One of the FJ's, the Taco and 4R looked capable enough but the 2nd FJ was only sporting a mild lift and sliders.

Since I helped build the trail years ago, I took the lead. The FJ couldn't make it over gatekeeper and used me as an anchor
for his winch line. The other 3 helped each other get through the gatekeeper. It was like that through most of the fun parts.

At the end, they thanked me for my help and they went on their way.

I went to the local Sushi bar, ate too much, drank a pot of Green Tea and topped it off with some Green Tea ice cream.

On my way home I stopped at a wide spot for a while to watch the sun set. Mostly because I was driving directly in to it.

I had a 2006 LJ Rubicon Unlimited Jeep Wrangler and that thing was rock solid. I would prefer that Jeep on the trail to my 2021 Pro 4R, but I would prefer my 4R for everything else. I bought it new and never had one issue with that Jeep in seven years. But, I was scared to death of having an accident in it with any of my three boys in it. Plus, my oldest was going start driving soon and I did not want him to have a Jeep at his disposal at that time. I can fondly remember what me and my buddies were doing when we first started driving - especially when there were Jeeps, Broncos and pick-up trucks involved. Part of me wish I had kept it - they are a fun second vehicle for sure!

Yeah my TJ is pretty much trail only. It see the street once in a while and absolutely kills the mall parking lot bump stops.
It's hardly ever on the freeway anymore. That's what the 4R's for. Flying low on the freeway and for our local logging and fire roads.

I was 18 yrs. old and bought and owned a FJ-40 for 34 years. My Wife didn't worry about me having any girlfriends because the
    Cruiser was 'her'.

Wish I still had it and a few of the rides my Dad had.

I am almost 61 and this 4R is the best vehicle I have ever owned. But my sentimental favorite is the 1977 Ford Ranger Bronco I had (last year for the original Bronco's 66 - 77). I bought that at 21 while I was in the Army at Ft Bragg, NC and had it for five years. I beat it up pretty good and could not afford to fix. That V-8 302 had some pop! Back in the 70's and 80's there were some great old Broncos, Jeeps, Scouts and FJ's still running around - a great era for rugged 4WD's - with manually locking hubs! I would love to have that baby back!

I traded in a 21JLUR eco diesel for a 22 Trd pro, no regrets. 4Runner is a lot more comfortable esp on 2+ hour drives out of town.

"Good" can always be improved upon. Why settle for good when you can be GREAT?

    And then came the 1986 4R w/ IFS. The 1985's weren't broke.

The EB's hold a place in my life when I worked at County operated sewer treatment plant in the early 80's. We would drive through creeks that were 3-5' deep in reverse so the engine would not drown out. Neither the '67 (I6/3 on the tree) and '76 (289/C-4) EB's had carpet in them and they had bigger drain holes in them to evacuate the standing in them while we kept driving.
The other times that they were used for was to drive out to the cow pastures where the treated Effluent Water was discharged.
That meant wearing knee high boots and hosing the floors of the EB's when we got back to our plant.

    Good Times.

But that being said, there's a pretty big spread even in the majority average. Bank on 18MPG and consistently getting worse as you consistently keep fiddling with it and bolting things to it hahaha
