Yes that would makes sense. As there are more frequent fast up/down movements the worst it’ll be and the hydraulics of kdss will have a hard time keeping up between each side creating a “lag”. Disabling kdss with the press of a button solves this issue

ideally you’d want the truck to “float”, by having the suspensions absorb each bump individually and independently.

This is extreme but a good representation or what suspensions should do in high speed off roading:

Makes sense. High speed off road isn’t kdss territory. That’s where the trd pro comes in to play.

Such a thing exists in the Jeep world as well, Rubicon versus Mojave. Mojave doesn't have a sway bar disconnect. You can probably disconnect it manually but Jeep wants it to run in the desert

Yes but with dr kdss switch and better aftermarket than OEM pro suspensions you can do just as good if not better depending on what you choose. In stock form though, your statement is correct

Will Dr. KDSS make washboards a little less painful?

I'm around 2.5/1.5 with no KDSS spacers or anything fancy - did change UCAs though while I was changing things. Still drives amazing in curves - its still pretty unbelievable compared to the one non-KDSS I test drove. @Yotaholic is lifted with it as well and haven't heard issues from him. I've read on this forum to stay below 3" but I think that's pretty standard for all 4runners because you get into bigger builds that need a lot more parts replaced.

Think I saw a strike through on @djwantke the other day - he may be on a mandatory vacation

There are some threads on it. It's on my list of things to try if I ever get everything else I've already purchased installed

I had two issues, a lean and stock KDSS clamps came off. The lean was because I was not parking the truck on flat surface, and it went away by itself after I parked it on a different spot. And for the clamps issue, I got beefy DR. KDSS ones. So far so good.

yes, wanted to see if ride was softer over 12 mph. It seemed like it was on the trail I did.

to know for sure I should probably ride the same trail with and without it plugged in and have a few passengers and not tell them if it’s on or off and see if they can tell a difference

DrKDSS has a switch you can have on your dash to make it easy to turn on and off at push of a switch

I've had both versions of the switch. With Icon stage 7 and e load tires, I'm not too sure if I can really feel a big difference on wash boards testing around 15psi and also at my on road 40ish psi. I'd say it's situational, and non KDSS are much smoother at speeds.

I've also removed the front kdss sway bar, everything is MUCH smoother but I wasn't a fan of the handling for my needs.

Oh yeah, I forgot you had issues with your clamps. I should probably check mine but I don't flex as hard or as often as you so they're probably fine. Adding it to the spring mx checklist

It should BUT I’ve only experienced the 4R with kdss (friend) or without it (mine) but not with kdss disabled from drkdss switch. However I’ve heard a lot of good things about it so I’ll let people that actually have done the mods answer that question for you. If I had kdss I would definitely install the switch

what suspension you have and how much lift?

I’m thinking of a Bilstein 1.2” to 1.6” lift but wouldn’t want to do that if it makes my ride more stiff and clamps to come off

I have the Dr kdss clamps and those adapters. Havnt installed them yet, didn’t need the adapters since my bushings are not stressed or angled at 2.25” lift. I’ll save them for the future when I upgrade to a better suspension. Never looked at his switch since it wasn’t something I thought I needed.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

I just learned more about it. I thought Limited had largest sway bar, but KDSS has 42mm and hydraulic front sway bar links that look like they raise and lower the bar for more articulation. If your suspension doesn't have enough travel on extension I don't think disconnects will help much. I just raised mine and I may lower it and inch in front for more decompression travel. That said I always made it where I was going and back without all that stuff. 4runner Pro means the vehicle is equipped for off road even if the driver isn't. Good tires and driver mean the most on 4runner. I used 5100s and I'm very satisfied. I just got more lift than intended with OME and 5100s on top setting. I read and researched, but you never know until your done. I reset my struts 3 times and just got tired. I used 2" lift rear to level with front. My Xreas rear springs felt to mushy. It rides and drives great now. I ended up about 4" of lift and used adjustable sway bar links which actually seem unnecessary now. Extended would probably be fine ,but they are all about the same expensive price like a bump stop. I used Energy suspension bump stops from 3rd gen rear for front on mine for $22.

If the roads you drive on do not heavily exercise the 4r’s suspension then kdss may have diminishing value.

We have lots of mountain twisties here. I have driven a 5gen sr5 and it felt downright dangerous, at the speed I’m accustomed to driving.
With kdss, my 4r feels like a typical Subaru cuv, carving up the mountain roads

Or maybe it's the fact that kdss only exists on the 4runner for Toyota models (and even then not all 4runner models) so why bother investing in a big money tool that would only see limited use and Toyota will just lend the tool out.

But… the fact that it needs such rare special tool is bound to be a risk one is willing to take with regards to long term ownership.
