up until last year, only in old lady Lexus Crossovers and even then only 2 model years.

There is zero heavy service history of it until 24 Tacos rolled out. Its truck use history is blank right now. The most use they are currently seeing are from being moved between dealer lots and overflow lots.

I guess, maybe for the people who need them. I have no problem mashing the pedal to the floor, personally.

I would think that towing would be the ultimate test of this engine. And, so far it seems to do quite well, from what I've read. Do you think they'll get hotter running around town getting groceries?

There has been a long term towing test of the T24A already?

On the other hand, short trips around town under light use are the worst for turbo engines with frequent cold starts and shut downs, much more so than even NA DI engines. I think the 6th gen comes with start-stop too so there is also that to add to the wear.

Some people have outstanding foot injuries that doesn't allow them to move their food fast like on the movie Prometheus, Charlize Theron's character can't run to the side due to an old injury.

TFL does their testing but they are in a cold climate.

More load means more boost so hotter temps all around.

No, I was just referring to performance.

I do agree that the motor still needs to be proven. I'm just not going to jump on the bandwagon condemning it before we even know how it's going to be.

Agreed. I am also of the school of Wait-And-See.

If the motor and tranny turn out to be reasonably durable, I am somewhat tempted about getting a base SR5 RWD and slap on 33 ATs and a long travel kit now that the 33 inch tire clearance is finally there and build my pre-4Runner.

    Lol!

Honestly, if someone has a medical condition that doesn't permit them to move their feet properly, they probably shouldn't be driving.

I don't know or care what TFL is. I'm talking about members on Tacomaworld who have towed with them.

Well, that's how I ended up here. I joined there when I had my '15 Taco, and joined here in '19 after I got the 4Runner. Most of the people who come to the Wisconsin outings are Tacoma people, but we're getting more and more 4Runners. The Wisconsin TW gang is a pretty good group, except for me of course.:D

I got banned because one member wanted full size capabilities out of a mid sized truck so I suggested a F150.

Lol. Some people are sensitive, I guess. There's definitely no shortage of people who don't understand the limitations of a midsize truck. As rugged as some of them are, they just aren't going to tow like a big heavy full size with a big ass diesel engine.

And the 2.4 is already known for EGR and timing chain issues. Also known for poor fuel economy. Cannot wait to see that bad boy in a 5,400# SUV!

Do your own research. If others have heard about it and you haven't, spend less time in echo chambers. You certainly won't hear about it on a 4Runner forum where no one has got their hands on a T24A yet.

When my 5th gen gets to the same mileage as my old 3rd gen I'll just LS3 and SAS it and go another 300K...no need for me to look at another gen version!

I remember reading something that said the EGR and timing chain were speculated to be potential weak spots on this motor. But I didn't come across any actual pervasive EGR and timing chain issues.

So if someone is claiming the 2.4T is known for EGR and timing chain issues, I would like to read about them. Is there a recall? Maybe a TSB that I'm not aware of?

I'm sure other people interested in purchasing a vehicle with this motor (such as yourself) would like to know too.

I was also excited when the pictures were released. But now that the pricing has come out, i just don't feel like the plastics and finishes are not at level of what they are asking. I'll wait until the used market starts getting them.

Nope. I had money on the new LC and decided to double down on older tech and got one of the last TRD Pro 5gen. Especially happy with my 5gen when it was reveled the g6 would be virtually the same thing. If a lost my gen5 to an accident, I might even try to find another one used. 70k for a TRD Pro…meh. I don’t like the styling. I’d likely go for an LC…

It's pretty easy to figure out who's worth paying attention to over there. Fortunately, I'm mostly active in the regional forums there, and the Midwest is mostly filled with awesome people.

NO for sure ... that is why I got one of the last 2024's in this area ... no 50,000 RPM turbos on a 4 banger on this vehicle size.

IMO .. What could have made Gen 5 more perfect is a 8 speed auto (Not a CVT either).

    Lol.

The turbo 4 banger makes more power at lower RPM's than the 1GR. ;)

Or, are you referring to the rotation of the turbo itself? In which case, I also wouldn't be too concerned, since turbos are being used on much larger vehicles.

Edit. Are you worried that the 4Runner is too small for a turbo motor?
