I read the first 4 pages of debate on the turbo... then skipped to the end.

So I am definately holding on to my 5th. Like that it is somewhat simple and still has a lot of stuff that appeals to mechanical old school me (manual transfer, big knobs in cabin, radio with dials, etc) with just enough tech to not be a complete dinosaur.

On the flip side, we hedged bets and just traded my wifes Honda in for a Grand Highlander Platinum (gas model). Dont knock the 2.4 turbo until you try it - its not even the hybrid max and its a night and day difference from the 1GR/5AT. At any driving speed jut squeeze the pedal lightly and the torque is instantaneous, even in eco/normal mode. Very nice to drive and I cant imagine that I would ever need the 365hp of the hybrid. And its eerily quiet. You can barely hear the engine cruising and at first I didn't even notice that start/stop was engaged the idle is so quiet. Yeah you hear it when you put your foot in it but its still nowhere as loud as the v6.

The thing that worries me most about these newer engines is not the turbo but the DI and crudding up the intake but I read the tech notes on the T24A-FTS and the 2.4 is a direct AND port injection scheme so hopefully that wont be too much of an issue.

I'm thinking the non hybrid 4Runners will get better fuel economy than the hybrids. Or, at least they'll do better then the Landcruiser.

Plus, I think the numbers will get better. It's currently based on vehicles with less than 3K miles on them, average.

I'm sure there will be a lot of variation, based on driving style.

That said, I still don't blame anyone for waiting a year or two to trade their 5th gen in on one.

Now that photos of them on transport trucks are popping up, I'm a little bit excited. Not to buy one, but I do want to test drive one for the heck of it.

Same! I drove a Taco last winter, and the LC250 in June. It's only fair :notsure:

Am middle aged. I don't change cars for no reason anymore.
First year release is never really been a good option.
    Been there. Done it.

Though plan to test drive 2024 Tacomas and LCs next service appointment.
Feel the 2.4 Turbo VS GX550 Twin Turbo
The latter has some serious power but too much electronics.

Also what's with the 2025 T4R black plastic Fenders/Air Dams - that might tarnish/scratched in hot heat of Summer

I get a very 70s retro vibe from it. Not my thing, but I don't really hate it.

I think that paint job distracts me from looking at the car, making it look not as bad. The shape is just too weird and if it were all black I'd instantly hate it. I think yellow distracts me from hating it immediately when I look at it. Give it enough time though.....
