How bad is this rust?

During recovery points I think I just found that radiator support area rust ya'll are always stressing folks to take care of!

 

I had a LC 100 I bought from northern va. She was crusty. Happy to say, 8 years later, the rust hasn’t progressed. Gotta love living in NC. I didn’t treat it or do anything else, just drove it.

I will say that small dealerships have made a fortune flipping crusty northern trucks to unsuspecting buyers in the south.

 

That’s why us northerners salivate at southern cars lol small dealerships here can actually miss how precious a rust free truck is when they get it.

Looked at maybe 15 either 1st gen Sequoias, GX470s, 100 series LCs, and 3rd gen 4Runners before finding a relatively rust free 3rd gen a year later. Bought it off one of those sketchy Buy Here Pay Here scam lots in the bad part of town….was actually a better transaction than a bunch of “I know what I have” delusional private sellers with worthless rust buckets. Sketchbag lot just saw it as an old shitty Toyota with 180K miles and their eyes lit up when I plopped cash on the table.

Not super nice cosmetically but has been a SOLID winter “beater”. Everything works like new and not a single sign of a leak in my driveway. If you can keep these trucks protected from rust and just do routine maintenance, they can last forever with minimal headaches.

 

How many cans of wool wax should I buy to do the whole underside of my 4Runner?

 

Our Jeeps are fluid-filmed, my Dodge 2500 and the 4Runner are done with NHOU oil undercoating. No signs of rust under any of them.
