I got some “venison” food. My dog ate some and started shaking. Too much protein I guess. So, got some basic Purina One dry and she eats is sometimes. I also feed her Purina NF kidney diet and a Azodyl. Just started that trying to lower kidney levels.

It’s home made because I have to mix a little steak or trout in her NF so she eats it.

In nearly lost my Labradoodle to a recalled dog food, and i now cook my own dog food and freeze it. Not as good as raw I guess, but it works for my conditions. I showed the recipe to my Veterinarian and got the ok on the ingredients, blood work shows good and i feel good knowing exactly what he is getting. It is a lot of work, but it works for us.

The page from a vet that is copied in one of the previous posts in this thread is an example of what I mean by not much information that I regard as reliable. Vets push Science Diet and everything I've read about it outside a vet's office says it is a lousy dog food. The assertion about a bunch of brands that supposedly been "directly implicated" in canine heart disease is an outright lie. The people who are studying canine heart disease are collecting data and testing theories but don't know exactly what causes it. As for the other brands the vet asserts are good because large companies have made them for a long time and know what works, give me a break. Where are their studies demonstrating dogs who eat their foods are healthier and live longer than dogs who don't?

Exactly, I have making my recipe for a few years now, and have no problems.
