Hate to admit it, but the Ranger Raptor will destroy Taco/4R TRD Pro/Trailhunter sales

I bought a Limited that does all the same stuff. I kinda wish I had bought SR5 and upgraded just because I hate 3rd row seats. Killed cargo and napping ability. I was a JBL sound system with a 4runner built around it. I could have put Alpine in SR5 and will still have to here at some point. Bumper and Limited trim make some things more difficult, but it's basically GX system. I wonder if someone will be confused and indifferent about terrain choices on a Pro? Already to many dash warning lights to worry people. I am impressed with my auto limited slip. With slick tires I had to climb a 2 to 1 slope turning in a cockeyed driveway and AWD didn't engage and it pulled up the slope without spinning a wheel. Limited slips were all automatic when I grew up. Even in snow and ice my AWD hardly ever kicked in or rear wheels spinning. My hitch dug into their driveway backing down it was so steep. A lot to be said for having some weight and ass. You can use a new Bronco for a trailer regardless of which way their wheels are turning.

The limited with chrome and 20 inch wheels is perfect for the 99.5% that buy it which are soccer moms.

Yeah they tried to make it a little to Lexus and car like. My 4runner Limited will go everywhere any other will go. I have always driven Limited. More dependable. I guess 99.5% covers every 4runner driver if they are honest with themselves. Pro is the model not the driver

Quality has dropped with more American production and technology, but it's a Toyota world when you look around. I think with the environmental crap materials are poorer quality and lighter for mileage and emissions. They had bad head castings on American 3.5s and Toyota didn't do anything about. Apparently pot luck. I think they are more parts replacers than rebuilders now.

The Limited doesn't have a locker, though. Whether or not on really needs it depends on their specific use.

The Limited is full time 4wd. 4wd is always engaged.

I have never needed a locker for anything. I have a limited slip with no slip. I can travel faster than a locker. Locker is limited to 5mph. I was 4wding when they didn't have all this stuff and I didn't need it. You don't need all that stuff just a driver with experience

No. It's engaged automatically in transfer case I believe when wheel slips. Everything is turning but not engaged. I been more places in a 2wd truck with a bucket of gravel in back for traction and Fwd car than most 4wd owners. It's about the driver. On YouTube a $8500 Limited went everywhere a $50k Pro did but I already knew this. It's just bells and whistles for more money.

While I will agree that driver experience is important, a locker is still a valuable tool.

This is incorrect. Full time 4wd means exactly what it says.

    Lol, OK.

Claiming that some guy on YouTube in a limited was able to follow around a guy in a PRO proves nothing.

Yes, any trim will be plenty-capable off-road. But, a locker is still a valuable upgrade. Most people who buy other trims and build them up eventually add lockers.

Problems aside from Ford. I thought when the TREMOR package came out. I fell in love with the Anti Matter Blue paint with small orange accents. I love how dark the blue was and in some light almost black. The GMC2500 AT4 or an F250 in Anti Matter Blue might suit me just fine as my next tow vehicle. So far both better looking than the new Tundra unfortunately.

Never needed one. My limited slip hasn't slipped yet. AWD everything is turning I know. I maybe thinking of Trac engaging when wheel slips, but I don't think mine is engaged except on wheel slip in H4H. H4L it's engaged but I was thinking Trac controls and engages in H4H. I know on wet curve to fast heading towards ditch when wheel slips it engaged and pulls me back into the road several times. Doesn't matter to me I like it and I can go anywhere I want to. To many worried about Pro or ORP. They all do the same thing. It's the driver otherwise it's just sitting there.

The only person here worrying about the different trim levels is you. Most people just buy the one that suits them and don't worry about what the other ones have or don't have. They also don't pretend there is no value in features that their trim doesn't have just because they didn't want them.

Yeah but I don't need that for me and I just looked and I understand now. It's engaged but transfer case applies and adjusts torque to front. I thought it only engaged on slip but I guess it applies torque different. I know everything was turning but I could never feel if it was working. I used H4L and it acts like positive traction pulling you to the right so front would have to be engaged to do that. I understand and thanks. I don't care about trim
I wanted a Pro but I bought used after buying new decades ago. I worked for Toyota and know the reliability but my shit ends up being wrecked at some point and I'm over paying for a new wrecked vehicle. I get same service life with $20k left. The 4wd knob is unnatural after having a lever. I wish I had gotten SR5 without 3rd row. It was Trac working with my AWD to save me engaging. 4wd was engaged full time and Trac braked right wheel making left one pull me back into the road. Couldn't have unless engaged all the time. Thanks again

Torsen differential (what's in the center of a Limited): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsen

Apparently Toyota uses a Type 3, which actually does not split torque 50/50 (which I had assumed), so maybe this is part of Greg's confusion about the front being engaged (it's possibly lightly engaged if unlocked).

Edit: Looks like Greg looked it up at the same time.

Yeah I guess computer adjusts torque application is why I couldn't feel it working. I'm still on 5th gen learning curve. I don't work at dealer anymore and I'm not up to date on all the tech. I'm learning as I go on a lot of stuff now.

Ditch your Tacos and go MERICAN :crapstorm:. . . . Build your own with all the crucial bits stripped off your old Ford. The coyote motor is still a great motor.

I guess figures of speech aren’t that obvious these days. Forever in its literal sense is what it means, but given that we are talking about cars, does forever really mean forever in its figurative sense? Hell no, but all things require maintenance. If you break your arm, are you just done and going to lay down and die or are you going to fix it? The same applies to cars, at least the way I was raised. We didn’t just trash something because it broke, we troubleshot and fixed unless it was beyond fixable, which was a very rare occasion.

Maybe I just expect too many people to have a higher sense of language skills these days.

True 4runner value is keeping, driving and fixing when you have to. I'm over perpetual payments. It will be the one that always runs requiring only gas and few parts if halfway cared for. I like not replacing transmission, engine, parts

Maybe, but I am not one of them. I called this kid's Jeep elegant and the best to do it, he said my 4Runner looked cool and is the most reliable. I showed him how KDSS works and he showed me his cheap $150 disconnect

I'll admit I'm occasionally a shit stirrer but this is the second or third thread I've seen that phrase on recently. I was genuinely asking if this is some new "cool" phrase everyone is using.

Either you have a catch phrase you are repeating on multiple threads (I didn't see who posted on the others) or this is possibly the new battle cry of the tide podders

To be fair, the "anyone who is anyone" monologue above is pure brand loyal fanboy crap. I.e., we're all fools that should pay heed to your superior Toyota 2.4 knowledge.

I've been here 36 hours or less, i have said it in 2 posts both in this thread. The search forum doesnt show anything else in the first page of searches other than this thread so i would venture to say it was me that said it, and the two others that parroted it also in this thread.
I dont say that IRL but it fit for the post i made at the beginning of the thread.
"blah blah blahhhh Toyota would never do a tune and let you keep your warranty"
Rather than get into the "wanna bet" back and forth argument i simply stated a few facts that anyone who remembers the recent past would remember.

People like what they like. I'm not ashamed to be pulled out by anyone driving anything. Beats walking. Good and bad things in all. I like knowing mine doesn't have a bunch of Mexican parts in them like domestic. Tundra has more American made parts than any pickup and I don't want one of them anymore either. I could probably dig a Raptor. I like horsepower in pickups. I just don't know anything about a Ford and having to learn about Toyotas again with all the tech garbage and sensors nowadays. It's best not to talk smack about what others like. You might need a ride.

Scotty Kilmer pisses me off. Probably for subscribers on YouTube mostly, but it's always the end of something or so and so is going to kill this. I used to drive 100+ miles every day and that's what sold me on them. I worked on my Mopars on weekend to drive all week. 4runner ended that. It was just most dependable 4wd I ever drove just add gas.
