Unlikely, I'm a recent transplant here. Only moved to WA a year and a half ago, after retiring, but I'm loving it so far.

Too poor to buy anything now
I think the takeaway from what he said is that "situational awareness" is as important as carrying. Be aware and don't suddenly find yourself in the situation.

It was meant to show how fast things can escalate, Illinois doesn't allow open carry of the few guns they allow us to own. And in my opinion open carry is a little reckless, I have seen videos where someone walks up behind the gun owner, grabs his gun and uses it to rob him. The idea of conceal carry is that nobody knows who is carrying.

Although, in the example, the fastest person in the group, knowing it was coming, wasn't fast enough. In the example, being fully aware and the situation not being sudden isn't enough, so might as well not carry at all? The statement I commented on was might as well not carry if you can't get to it in three seconds. Then I got called out for the three second comment being one of the stupidest things I've heard, but the examples support it. Huh, sounds like tacticool training works every time.

I engage in tactical training once a month with the guy that gave the ccw class. Moving targets, different layout every time and you shoot laser pistols that are the exact same size and weight as a g19.

It isn't padded on the inside, except for the bottom. In my case, I have not only the stuff folks normally have in centre consoles, but have also attached a gun magnet, and have an additional two magazines for my carry pistol. It works well for me. It's a small business and customer service is amazing.

    Cheers,

    Sean

If you have to leave it, console safe seems to be a better way to store. Best is to not leave in vehicle at all, but not always an option

$500 with the e-lock. That’s nuts IMO. Which lock do you have @brownersd ?

That's pricey! I got a Console Vault with the barrel key lock for $270 + tax w/ free shipping with a coupon code found via Google.

It could also be that OP thinks he's cute, being coy, or attempting to build plausible deniability, all of which are dumb in the context of this thread.

Lockerdown with the electronic lock in mine (moved over from my '13). Once you close the lid and then click the arm back it auto-locks, so to me is a safety measure to make sure you don't forget to lock it. I replace the cr2032 battery once a year, which is probably overkill but its cheap. I opted for the Extreme version which has thicker steel all around as well as removing seams and pry points. I've been very happy with mine over the years.

I riveted a holster to the bottom seat trim for my Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm. It's out of the way of prying eyes, but right there between my thighs for quick retrieval.

Grip faces up, barrel faces down.

That's what I thought initially but given the bitchy reply I think in the 2nd post he was telling a story of his use case where he had a CWP and had to leave a gun in the vehicle in a future scenario. When you read it from a pure fantasy POV I guess it makes sense.

In general, I get a very uneasy feeling the OP is not very familiar with firearms and is thinking about "hiding" one in the vehicle because they are preparing to carry one without much thought about doing it safely. The keyword "hiding" vs "securing" makes me anxious at their request for information.

This is why I'm being a dick about it. Leaving a loaded, unattended firearm in a vehicle shouldn't be taken lightly

Wow. And this is exactly why I ask
Your response makes me laugh. My initial post would take someone to read between the lines to appreciate but it doesn't seem that many people read with the intent to understand anymore.

Which of my responses was "bitchy"? Please elaborate on that.

The term "hide" and "conceal" are interchangeable. Do you have a Secured Weapons Permit? No you have a CWP. So I used the word "hide" because I could "secure" it in the open and like many have already commented, if a thief wants it he is going to get it. My intent was not to seek advice on how to secure a gun. I feel very capable in that area. I see clever ways to hide closets and valuables in homes all the time. Without having to write an essay like I have done here I was merely asking for ideas or suggestions based on what others have done to minimize the chances of an individual finding the gun. All of the firearms in 30 years that I have intended to own (please read between the lines or maybe you are the guy with the Glock stickers all over his car proclaiming to the world that you are a gun Owner?) are secure. Sometimes I think people on these forums are just looking for a fight. Maybe I should have said "secure and hide". I'll own that.

I think some folks are tired of the, I lost all my guns in a boating accident bs, or don't know what that means. If you own firearms and want to store them in the car, just say it.

You got some good suggestions. Which are you trying.

This IMO seems to be the best option https://www.lockerdown.com/i-78-exx...a-4runner-model-ld2048ex.html?ref=category:75

But this doesn't fully serve the purpose I was looking for. I will probably build something on my own.

The general advice would be to treat it the same way you treat any valuables: don't make it obvious from the outside that you're hiding something (like putting it in where the jack is stored), and better yet if you can hide it before you get to your destination, so no one there sees it anyway.

I'll bite. 30 years of firearms ownership 'desire', so you're probably what, 40 at least? You'd think you'd have developed a thick skin enough that you didn't need to write an essay when called out for dumb behavior. Which it is, because nobody who would be dragnetting a truck forum is going to be fooled by this act. Only the young and naive that you're willing to leave behind will believe you, but fuckem right? After all it sounds like you don't want people who show signs of not knowing what they're talking about to be corrected by the people they're asking for advice. Don't take it personally, policing people from being obtuse without reason is how you keep that standard of discourse high so people get the info they need.

For people who aren't OP because he clearly wants to play pretend in an unhelpful manner, if you actually want to hide it while securing it, you can't be seen to have to stow it, so only places you can reach from the driver's seat make sense. That's pretty much just under the seat in a well tethered lockbox or in a well-secured console safe, and I personally would pick the console safe, preferably one that's keyed.

I'm not good with foreign languages or international stuff, so just wondering. Do you pronounce your name like You've Been Had, or Uben Hod, Ubean Hot? I assume it's German?

Hahaha off topic. You(ve) Been Had in this case, it's stolen from one of my dad's old D&D characters from 2e IIRC.

Thanks. I won't even ask what D&D 2e IIRC means, probably Klingon or from Luke Skywalker in Star Trek

So much wrong with your post but in an effort to try and "thicken" my skin I will refrain from biting as you say. Appreciate your productive response.
