MAD, it's a thing. A person wants a "soft" target, not a hard target. We've been learned open carry is putting yourself in harms way, but if you ask criminals, they target those who are easy(ier) targets. They pick the car without the flashing red alarm light on the dash, they pick the house that doesn't have a "beware of dog" sign, they pick the person that looks like an easy mark. Criminals don't pick the person with the gun on their hip.

 

For road rage, obviously.

Definitely. It's almost like open carrying. If someone is going to try something, they'll probably shoot you first.

Not always possible-federal buildings, etc. My brother has police grade handcuffs and uses them to lock the gun in a hidden spot to the metal body panel-Ford Explorer for these situations.

 

I have a G43 as my EDC. Wish I could carry my G19 instead but it's way too obvious.

Florida has interesting gun laws, particularly where vehicles are concerned. NEVER EVER approach anyone in a car in Florida in an aggressive manner.

 

There’s an interesting article here about under-seat storage. Perhaps the idea could be adapted to include a pistol box.

 

OP, I carry a handgun everywhere I go. If I must leave it in my truck, such as when I go to the chiropractor or courthouse, I just put it in the center console. If I'm leaving my truck at the parking garage at the airport, I don't carry the same handgun as I do every day. I have a Taurus G3 that I leave in the center console. It's less than $300 and if someone picks my truck to break into, oh well. It's not one of my Kimbers. But pretty much all other times I either carry in a IWB holster or a bag that I carry from my truck to my office.

IMO, the headrest thing shown on page 1 looks like junk.

Not familiar with your Oregon gun laws, but here in Florida your car is protected under the Castle Doctrine and is considered a conveyance.

Had an incident back in 2019 where I was going back to my car parked in a Burger King Parking lot. There was a skeevey-looking dude standing at the bus stop who saw me and was quickly approaching through the parking lot just as I got in and locked my car. The dude POUNDED on my driver's window demanding money. I stared straight at him while reaching for my G19, which I casually placed in my lap. Took a nanosecond for the dude to turn heel and GTFO of Dodge and leave me alone.

As the saying goes: Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

 

If they want to mug you, then you're right.

If they want to kill as many people as possible before getting shot themselves, then you'll be a target.

There was that bar shooting a few years ago where the guy took out security first, then was able to shoot patrons at his leisure.

Honestly, typing this out really brings out how shitty the situation has become. It's bad enough people feel they have to strap up for protection, and it's worse that there is even a debate on which one is more likely to get you shot yourself...

The Florida / approaching a vehicle is something too, that's why I don't honk at cars being jackasses unless I need to; too many road rages turn into shootings since 2020.

 

This looks like a fantastic way to flag your passenger in a high stress situation. No thanks.

My point was you shouldn't approach anyone in a car in an aggressive manner. Castle doctrine be damned.

If someone approaches another in an aggressive manner, they aren't checking whether the state, on paper, allows them to act defensively.

 

I agree, If I am toting, I dang sure don't want to keep it stored or let anyone know/be aware of my intentions. Just try to blend in.

Learned that about 20 years ago when I got pulled in my Diesel for a registration check. The first thing I was asked, Before checking my license and registrations, Was, "Where is your gun"? Then it hit me, That large H & k sticker on my back glass did me zero favors.

The video install instructions show it is “ locked in” by nothing more than a metal butterfly drywall fastener attached to one of the mounting posts that inserts into the seat so I doubt it would be too hard for a knowledgeable person to remove. Besides there is a video on how to remove it if necessary available to anyone..

I would not trust this thing if it was $3.49 let alone at $349

In my case with the dude approaching my car, he wasn't counting on the 5'6" blond chick having a gun. "Though she be but little, she is FIERCE!" (That's Shakespeare, boys!)

Edit: I also always carry an extra magazine in one of their magazine carriers.

 

It's a moot point since we can't open carry in Florida. Let's face facts: ANYTHING can happen, anytime, anywhere. You're either prepared or you're not.

 

It’s all in how you use it. My use of it would be to put the pistol into it at venues where carry is prohibited. Otherwise the pistol would be out of it.

A knowledgeable person could remove anything.

 

true dat. I was just pointing out you would not need that saw. I have pulled metal drywall anchors out bending them backwards without even damaging the hole much.

 

My intended purpose is to put the gun in a place that the average person would not look for it or it would take them some random amount of time above just grabbing off the seat to find it. I carry and have a CWP. But there are time where I have to go somewhere unplanned that doesn’t allow me to carry. So I would then put the gun in the place of choice until I return.

The question was intended to get recommendations, not advice on how to live my life.
