IMO it’s not nearly as bad as the bright white from the LEDs

Is anyone running a Baja Designs bar on their rack? If so, how’s the hood glare with it?

I'm running halogens and the glare off the hood is pretty ridiculous. So much so I'm looking into getting lights that are more direct and have less flood/spill.

From what I have been told, the Diode Dynamics SS42 lightbar had the best direct beam pattern and long distance throw (if you get the driving pattern).

I haven’t heard how well the Baja Designs S8 are for that application, so I’m trying to figure that out for myself…

Question for those with individual/multiple LED lights on roofrack, Are you guys wiring the individual LED lights in a parallel or in series? Which is best and why?

If I understand your question correctly, parallel. If I remember my 10th grade electronics class and Ohm’s Law, when you wire in series the voltage is split up among the loads. When you wire in parallel the amperage is split among the loads but the voltage remains constant, which is what you want.

    Hey everyone,

Our lights will definitely work as seen in the previous posts; hood reflection can definitely be an issue, however, with the correct lenses it can help reduce this issue a lot.

The Driving/Combo lens pattern is equipped with both Driving (42-degree) and spot (9-degree) beam focus which is a good cross between near field and distance applications.
The Spot lens is a longer and narrower 9-degree beam focus for illumination further down the trail or road, this can help reduce the issues with hood reflection that some people may be having.

Here is a link to a couple 4runner specific kit as well as the light bars seen in previous posts:

So, I picked up a Diode Dynamics 42" light-bar on sale and, as I am still deployed and not home to install it yet, wonder if I am going to have any fitment issues due to it being 42" wide. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I know it will fit on Prinsu and others, but I really hope it isn't a problem with the Gobi.

I have a 43” Cali Raised and it fits great. I highly doubt the 1” will be an issue.

I’m running a DD single row light bar and only hear it when I slide open the sun roof. Volume on my HU is normally at 16-18 out of 40 when we are driving on the freeway.

I've been running these on my Gobi Ranger and really like them. Not as bright as the sun, but they do a really great job.

sweet! Thinking of a similar setup! I was super impressed with how little (none) wind noise I had by just adding the rack and I’m hoping to keep it pretty much the same. I’ve heard from some people that round lights can be noisy

I would highly recommend not doing hella 500/700 on the roof. You're going to have so much light spill on the hood making the roof lights useless.

Help me understand... you recommend a pretty poor option, then agree with me when I disagree with your choice? Was it sarcasm?

If someone wants to put lights on a roof rack, I'll suggest lights. It doesn't mean it's a good idea, but Hella lights are inexpensive and decent quality, so they won't be out much, and if they realize they don't want roof rack lights they didn't over spend.

If I was putting roof rack lights on I'd use Hella 500/700. I wouldn't do that though, not without mitigating the glare.

I'm not personally vested, so I'm giving a logically sound recommendation based on the OP question, right.

I can give a well thought out response to a question without thinking the OP is doing a good mod.

I'm not a huge fan of roof top tents, but that doesn't mean I'm going to suggest a shitty roof top tent to someone...

I just don't understand why you would on purpose suggest a light you know isn't effective in that application, because you don't agree with the application as a whole. If everyone in this forum did that, the forum would be filled with nothing but junk suggestions out of spite.

Did you not read my response? If you did, you misunderstood it. Hella produces great lights at good prices. If you're going to run off road lights, Hella should be a top consideration. As a matter of fact, I'm currently running them on my own rig, and have run them on several rigs since the late 1990s.
