The 120 and 165 lbs load limits posted around from the hand book are for the different factory cross bars. 300 lbs dynamic and 600 lbs static are what I have seen used for the roof load capacity.

So, this is interesting because depending on where you look online, those numbers seem anecdotal. Many people on many sites throw around numbers. And why not? If you’re manufacturing a product that more than halves a customer’s capacity, of course you’re going to advertise the 300/600lb capacity of your heavy steel rack. Unfortunately, the capacity of the rack shouldn’t mean diddly squat if the roof can’t hold that much.

If you search other 4R forums (not hard to find on google) there is actual confirmation from Toyota on the 120lb weight limit.

I should probably contact the manufacturer myself, and stop trying to look for consensus online, lol. Thanks for the input :)

yeH, I guess those people sleeping 2 adults and a kid on a 100lb roof top tent are about to collapse the roof.

I am in the starting process of ordering a Steath no rise. Placed order over phone, everything went good, played a bit of phone tag today... currently waiting on my invoice... seems kind of strange... id think that kind of thing is pretty instant?

Is there something specific about the Gobi racks that makes them so desirable?

For me, I like the functionality of a basket. There isn't many basket rack options. I looked really hard at BajaRack, their ladder is really cool looking. I just couldn't get over how high it sits off the roof and the way the wind fairing doesn't go to the roof.

Gobi is just about the only game in town for basket style that looks really amazing. The price you pay is wait times...

You obviously know I'm referring to the dynamic rating with the 120lb number.

It's a moot point, obviously people overload their racks without consequence. It doesn't make it smart to plan that starting from the rack, especially when you can save a lot of weight with a lighter rack that is still far stronger than the capacity of the roof. Which brings me to my original point. What's so special about a gobi that you can't make yourself in a quarter of the time or less? If you have plenty of money to throw around and time to wait for a Gobi rack, then by all means.

Thank you. :) This was the answer I've been looking for. Not sure it would be worth it to go to the trouble it would take to replicate that style on a diy scale.

    Cheers!!

    This is spot on.

I'll add that you can use the no-rise Stealth as both a flat rack and a basket rack in certain situations.......which adds to its versatility.

It oddly reminds me of the scene from Ghostbusters where he knows he’s gonna get shocked but he answers (pushes the button) anyways.

I think Gobi looks better. Also - My buddy has Gobi and we all really enjoy being able to walk on the roof since gobi has the grate. Super useful when loading up the rack with all kinds of stuff, being able to stand up there and hand things down to people or people handing stuff up to you. Super useful. I wouldn't have it any other way.

They just charged my card as well.

    From the Gobi site:
All GOBI products are custom made with various options to fit your personal needs and manufactured in beautiful, adventure filled Colorado, USA.

I’ll eat crow and bow down now that I joined you all today. Just hung up with gobi and they confirmed my order minimum lead time 24 weeks so that’s puts me at least in January given the “minimum” the good thing is I already have a functional rack so the wait shouldn’t be too long and will probably have forgotten by the time it gets here. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Those that got their rack delivered what was it delivered by? I got to thinking they told me yesterday that the freight company will call me to schedule delivery when the time comes and if their bringing it on an 18 wheeler then I’m going to have to find another delivery place. Our subdivision isn’t big enough for a 18 wheeler to turn around in.

I would think it would just depend on what vehicle the local courier has in hand that day. Mine was delivered in a big truck van with only 4 wheels.

My wife and I are headed to Denver for a Gobi install the first week in August. We ordered the rack the first week of March. We plan on have sliders installed the same day from another Denver company. Looking forward to exploring Colorado and Utah for 10 days after the install date.

From reading through this thread, I think the vendors get preference over the customers. It makes sense; if they’re going to alienate someone, it’s going to be “Joe-single-sale”, not a regular customer like a shop.
