I wish it were that easy. These ECM's are particular to the vehicle. We took ours out and looked at it to see if there were any busted solder points or connections and everything looked fantastic. It also showed it is an ECM for a Manual transmission 4x4 on a 91 Runner. the closest one we saw at the junk yard was a 93 Automatic 2wd. I might have to order one off eBay and hope for the best.

Found a replacement ECM with matching numbers to mine on eBay. Should be here on Saturday. If this doesn't fix it, it may be terminal.

Looks to be a couple places down in South Florida that might be able to take a look at that ECM and possibly repair it if it's the culprit.

    https://www.solopcms.com/

    https://www.autopcms.com/pages/repair-center

Of course when you scroll to the bottom of these pages they have the same physical address. So I guess only one option. Worth a call possibly.

Those actually came off of my 2006 Rav 4. We, of course, had to fabricate some mounting brackets and he bent in the rear end to each side just to give a bit more room between them and the rear tires. He didn't want really strong brackets in case they get bumped and push into the tire well, so he could bend them back and save the tires. The brackets are flat steel. They are strong to stand on, which is what I needed. This project took an entire day due to the fabrication. They are Toyota brand and came with the Rav in 2006.

I'm sorry, I forgot to put a picture of her getting her repurposed floor boards. I had them on my Rav, but because it already sits so low to the ground, they were useless. I had trouble getting into the runner cause I am short as hell so I wanted them put on. I think they look awesome! He wanted factory floor boards but I simple can't find any.
Here's a picture of the installation day.

So after reading the thread on the Bull Bars, I am left wondering what a suitable front guard would be? I have removed our bumper to do some painting and I am not impressed with its protection. I want something beefier on the front in case of an accident. I don't need a winch or anything like that, but I do want something that will take a hit and not crumble like a beer can into my radiator.

I made this in a couple hours in my shop. Very simple and made from 1.750"x.120 tubing.

Nice job. I am wanting something that I can mount over/with my existing chrome bumper. to protect said bumper, that would attach securely to the frame, but still allow me to use my tow hooks to tow it.

Still waiting for the replacement ECM to arrive. Picked up a new Temperature Sending Unit that responds to the ECM, but haven't put it in yet. Hubby has noticed if he drives the Runner over 55, it goes into limp mode. Hopefully the ECM will fix this. Trust me, I will GLADLY tell you all about it if and when we finally get it fixed.

No doubt. I'm ready to start a new thread on my Runners Grand Adventures, instead of it's rebuild.

OK, so the replacement ECM arrived and he installed it. Took it for a test drive and it worked beautifully, no limp mode! :bananadance:

But, as he turned the corner to return home, to celebrate....he heard a big crunch....the rear end broke! :angrygirl:
Admittedly, we changed all the fluids in both front and rear ends, but did not open them to inspect as there didn't appear to be any reason to. Guess this means we are off to my favorite junk yard on my first official day of my new retirement, tomorrow! :spending:

This Runner is going to be the death of me.

As frustrating as it is, I am just glad it happened now instead of down the road, being towed by a Bus to God knows where. We never would have heard the crunch if it were being towed. He was able to put it in 4H and get it home using the front wheels. At 208,000 miles, I can't be mad at the rear end. Hopefully the front is in better shape.

Heck, I’d just be happy it’s that and the fact you fixed the limp mode. Rear is a pain but at least the repair should be less complicated:)
Sooooo, was that puppy purring like a kitten before the rear kaboomed??? :woot:

Also, you’re SUPER DUPER lucky it blew the rear before the trip.. the toyo gods we’re looking out for you on that one

I assume it was working as it should, but I am still at work and he drove it without me. And yes, hopefully it will be an easy fix!

I agree with you all, better to have happened now than in the middle of nowhere. The hubby however, does not share my feelings and is ready to set fire to it.

Had all these grand plans of going out and celebrating my retirement tonight but my DD/ hubby started early
due to his frustrations with the Runner. :annoyed: A joyous occasion ruined by this fuckin Runner.

Well, my favorite junk yard was a bust on the rear end....was already picked. :(
On to plan B. There is a guy upstate that has one, just have to find the time to make the 6hr run to get it.
The rear is definitely toast, I saw all the metal bits and chunks in the gear oil. Also the hubby tells me he didn't drive very far on the ECM test run to confidently say it is fixed cause the rear broke. For his sanity and my tranquility, lets all hope the Limp crap is fixed! (BTW it also needs new pads, drums and rotors.)
